Irony: Log Cabin Republicans Achieve What Congressional Democrats Could Not

The big news circulating throughout the blogosphere Tuesday afternoon is a report that a federal judge has halted the enforcement of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy which does not allow GLBT Americans to serve openly and honorably in the military.

Judge Virginia Phillips ordered the military "immediately to suspend and discontinue any investigation, or discharge, separation, or other proceeding, that may have been commenced" under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

This ruling is a pure case of irony.

Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) was not ended due to a Democratic Congress enacting legislation repealing the military policy. DADT was struck down due to legal action filed by the Log Cabin Republicans.

Now THAT'S ironic.

It's not ironic at all - it just goes to show that dems don't truly support LGBT rights when it is not politcally expedient to do so (AKA raising money).  Just look at the 38-24 vote in NY on marriage equality, and at the Queens all dem delegation voting 4-3 against.

Actually, it shows thathompphobiz has been discredited as a public policy issue I'm unsympathiethic to the LGBT lifestyle, but thsi tells me that trying to impede that lifestyle thourgh the legal and political systems is (like just about every other effort to legislate morality) next to impossible.

But if you  think the actions of individual Republicans or a group of Republcians who are somewhat estranged from the party in general is a sign that your party doesn't care about LGBT issues, then maybe you should study some history for a c hange.
