Still impressive and still awesome:
Lots of things are discouraging these days - but Al in the Senate sure ain't one of them.

Hooooolyyyy crap!!!
Here's another video I saw today of Franken leading a calm, reasoned, and amazingly informed (no notes!) discussion on health care.

Fucking Rush Limbo will give him grief because Mississippi, Idaho and other red states weren't drawn correctly.
Is there a version in real time?
I would be interested in hearing what he's saying while he's drawing the map.
Also very smart of him to start with Minnesota!
I am disappointed by the mutilation of the Upper Peninsula. The good people of Michigan will not stand for this indignity.
Back in the late 80's/early 90's, I recall seeing Al on an episode of "Win Lose Or Draw" (hosted by that quintessential emcee Bert Convy) demonstrate this same skill. From what I recall, he knocked it out in about five to seven minutes, and he was on a timed deadline. He even had time to draw in AK and HI and sign it at the bottom of the pad.
Maybe someone will YouTube that old clip in light of the new stuff.
He's done this before.
I hope he uses it as fund-raising tool because I'd pay to get a signed copy of an Al Franken map.
That Al Franken is in the Senate is truly joyous. He is more wonkish than people realize but I think his biggest attribute is his ability to talk about complex issues in easy to understand terms. What I really appreciate about Al Franken is that he makes the conversation about values. And when we make the conversation about values, progressives generally win. We are never to going to sway those believe in unfettered free markets but we can convince most that American is at its best when we espouse policies that enhance fairness and promote a narrowing of wealth.
