"They profit by denying people care"

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America are running a new television commercial in Maine and Washington, DC, urging Senator Olympia Snowe to support a public health insurance option. The ad features a woman who thought her family had good health insurance until her husband got cancer, and medical bills not covered by the insurance company forced them into bankruptcy. Watch it:

I don't put high odds on Snowe changing her position; she is said to be under tremendous pressure from Senate Republican leaders, and she likes the public option-free Baucus health care bill. But that bill might not make it out of the Senate Finance Committee without big changes. Meanwhile, Snowe represents a blue state where the majority of voters support a public health insurance option.

Best we can hope for from Snowe on the public option is a cloture vote.

which might be enough

if we could also get cloture votes from Lieberman, Ben Nelson, Kent Conrad, etc. But we probably can't.
