Sarah Palin: Hilarious

It's hard to say which of Palin's explanations for resigning was most hilarious.

My previous favorite: instead of governing responsibly, Palin says lame-duck governors waste time and money by jetting around on junkets, international trade missions, etc....and that's just not something Palin wants to put the people of Alaska through. So, you know, she might as well resign now (the un-mentioned option of actually governing responsibly for the balance of her term was apparently ruled out).

But Greg Sargent's found a new contender:

One of the chief reasons  Sarah Palin has given for resigning as Governor of Alaska is that her state's taxpayers are being forced to spend money defending her government against ethics complaints that would otherwise fund teachers, cops, and road repair.
...
But David Murrow, a spokesperson for the Governor, said in an interview that much of this money was budgeted to the lawyers in advance and would have gone to them anyway, even if state lawyers hadn't been defending against these ethics complaints.

The Anchorage Daily News picked up Greg's story:

Palin administration officials provided the Daily News with a breakdown of what it says are $1.9 million in costs. Most if it is a per-hour accounting of the time state employees, such as state attorneys, have spent working on public records requests, lawsuits, ethics complaints, and issues surrounding the Legislature's "Troopergate" investigation last summer of Palin.

"Is it a check that we wrote, no, but is it staff hours, yes," Sharon Leighow, spokeswoman for Palin, said of the expenses related to state employee work.

Those state employees would have been paid regardless.

Let's take a moment to admire the irony: Alaska state employees are now wasting time trying to defend Palin's fibs about the cost of wasting state employees' time.

The money quote (pun intended) is
But David Murrow, a spokesperson for the Governor, said in an interview that much of this money was budgeted to the lawyers in advance and would have gone to them anyway, even if state lawyers hadn't been defending against these ethics complaints.
Yes, the lawyers draw a salary but I doubt they sit with their feet up on the desk when not defending ethics charges. But we have to have our 15 minutes of hate.

Re: Sarah Palin: Hilarious

Look, the point is that Palin said - implicitly if not explicitly - that defending "attacks" forced Alaska to spend more taxpayer money than it would have otherwise.

Re: Sarah Palin: Hilarious

Yeah you know, the solution to that is to stop committing ethics violations.  I mean right?

by Jess81 2009-07-09 02:10PM | 0 recs
Re: Sarah Palin: Hilarious

Maybe she wouldn't have committed so many ethics violations if the biased media hadn't been so intent on prying into her ethics violations, you ever think of that?

Re: Sarah Palin: Hilarious

Time to refocus our energies towards the enemies that matter ... the Republicans in Congress and the traitors on Am radio who rule the Republican Party.

Two days ago Sean insHannity accused President of Obama of wanting to sell out to Putin and defend this nation with "slingshots."   I say screw Sarah Palin ... the Republicans will take care of her themselves as they have been doing ... and return the incoming fire from Cap Hill and am radio.

Re: Sarah Palin: Hilarious

Suggesting maybe there are more important targets than Palin is a worthwhile point, but I'm a little surprised you identify Hannity as one of the potentially more important targets. It seems to me Palin and Hannity are the same sort of creature, with roughly the same level of importance. Neither are politicians [anymore], just media figures, and both are important only because they have a following...

Re: Sarah Palin: Hilarious

Be it at work, at a bar, watching tv, listening to callers on radio shows, etc., the critique I hear of Obama's energy policy, or his health care policy or his handling of the auto bailout, foreign policy, etc. from those that oppose him all bear a lot of similarity to the attacks lobbed at him by the likes of Hannity and Rush.

I am just saying there has to be push book, especially when these people cross a line and call our President a traitor.

what's even more pathetic

Is that the Iowa GOP is aggressively pursuing this whiny quitter to headline their fall fundraiser.

Here's to the media geniuses, like Maureen Dowd

Here's an interesting perspective on the Governor's resignation, in today's IBD:

http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis /Article.aspx?id=481676

Many politicians---just this year---have quit posts early to pursue other endeavors. As this commentary shows, that's been the case throughout our history.

LOL

Yeah, because Sarah Palin is George Washington, ok, sure...by the way, thanks for linking an article from a right wing rag.

GOOD THOUGHTS!

But at least that rag isn't filled with the vile, hateful, sexist sexism that infects anyone who questions the most Brilliant Female Politician (TM Nancy) of our era.  (And that, my friend, is era, not the odious ERA!)

Remember DTO, only speak well of Sister Sarah.  And if you ever come face-to-face make sure to think nice thoughts.

Dude, haven't you ever read Washington's farewell address?  He talks about dead fish and pesky "ethics nazis" right before the famous passage about foreign entanglements.

Country First!

What does "country first" mean anyway?   Is her family second?  How does her resigning put Country first? (oh wait, that one actually makes sense).

But which country is first? I recall there's two countries in the US: the white Christian farm good parts, or the librul metropolitan diverse satanic parts? Southern VA has better 'Muricans then NoVa!

Appallingly mesmerizing

My GF's description of wonders of nature like Ms Palin.

You know you should avert you eyes, but you can't help but stare at the slow motion train-wreck.

I know they didn't had her directly in mind, but she is really a 24/7 ad for this movie:

Hillarious?

Hey, I'll give you hillarious....

On Tuesday, Obama told ABC News that additional stimulus measures would be "counterproductive".

On Wednesday, meeting with G-8 leaders in Italy, the "other Barack" told the group that the door must remain open to "more stimulus measures."

Hmmmm....well, maybe it's not hillarious after all. Maybe the word for this administration is going to be "bipolar"; it sure ain't going to be leadership. Either way, we can only imagine how the elite media would have treated such a flip-flop by Sarah Palin.

Thanks for the RedState point of view

Re: Thanks for the RedState point of view

It's just a little curious that folks on this site want to talk about Sarah Palin 24/7, and are devoting less time and attention to President Obama.

Put another way....why do you think Joe Biden was dispatched to Ohio today?

by BJJ Fighter 2009-07-09 04:49PM | 0 recs
Re: Thanks for the RedState point of view

Not paying attention are you? Of all the Democratic and or progressives sites there has been less chatter here about Sarah than else where.

None of us want to talk about Sarah Palin

but since those are the only diaries you've felt the need to comment on lately, ever since outing yourself as a gay bigot, I can understand why you'd think that.

Of the 8 current front page diaries, only 1 is about Palin...the others we discussed are; Roland Burris, Obama's approval rating, Massachusetts suing over DOMA (a topic you're notably absent in), Norm Coleman, White House threatening to veto a bill, What will become of victims' suits against GM, and Ginsburg coming out in support of Sotomayor.

so it's more like we're talking about Palin 8/.43

Re: None of us want to talk about Sarah Palin

Yeah, right. And the one by linfar about the Governor generated over 200 comments...probably more that the 8 other little diaries combined.

by BJJ Fighter 2009-07-09 05:23PM | 0 recs
200 comments

from about 10 of the same people and most of whom are saying something to the like of "I wish she would go away" and the same people who are in other comment threads talking about...other things...unlike the Palin lovers who only pop up in Palin diaries

On this, I agree with RichardFlatts;

Sarah Palin is irrelevant.

Re: None of us want to talk about Sarah Palin

Generally, weaklings like you resort to name-calling when things in their world are going south....or when they simply can't argue based on facts and specifics.

And dude....a diary about "Ginsburg coming out in support of Sotomayor"? I mean, what did you think Ruth was going to do; oppose her? Get serious.

Re: Hillarious?
Are you sure he wasn't just encouraging other countries to keep the door open to more stimulus, but that the US itself has done its fair share on stimulus?
The two aren't necessarily bipolar at all, unless you'd care to provide the links and show us this mental disease our president has developed.

Re: Hillarious?

Based on his past statements, the President probably feels that it would be arrogant and dismissive for him to advise other countries how to run their economies. So I guess I don't accept your premise.

Re: Hillarious?

The sun rose this morning at 6:32 AM.  This gratifying event was first reported by Mrs. Dorothy Stetson of Freeport, Long Island, who promptly telephoned the mayor.

The Society for Affirming the End of the World at once went into a special session and postponed the arrival of that event for twenty-four hours.

All honor to Mrs. Stetson for her public spirit!

Thanks Jess, I do loves me a good Wilder cue!

Re: Hillarious?

btw, beginning last Thursday, Romer, then Biden, and then Laura Tyson all opened the door (in varying degrees of enthusiasm) to Stimulus II. I don't think that would have happened without WH clearance beforehand. Which takes you back to wondering why the President would have described add'l stimulus measures as "counterproductive".

by BJJ Fighter 2009-07-09 05:00PM | 0 recs
Re: Hillarious?

Well you did throw Biden in there, so it may not have cleared anything but his mouth.

I haven't heard about Obama's statement to ABC, perhaps he viewed some indicators that changed his mind.
