GOP Earns Worst-Ever Rating in Fox Poll

I'm shocked -- shocked -- that this finding doesn't make it into the Fox News write up of its own polling, but the latest survey commissioned by the conservative news outlet finds that the Republican Party is at an all-time low in terms of popularity.

Per the poll (.pdf), the GOP's favorability rating has slid noticeably from the spring, from 41 percent in early April to just 36 percent today. At the same time, the party's unfavorable rating increased from 50 percent to 53 percent. Both of the current numbers represent new lows for the Republican Party in Fox News polling.

At the same time, the Fox News survey finds that Americans view the Democratic Party significantly better, with 50 percent viewing it favorably and just 41 percent viewing it unfavorably. Barack Obama's favorable ratings are even better -- still close to a 2-to-1 positive-to-negative ratio -- with 62 percent viewing him favorably and 33 percent viewing him unfavorably.

So just who's lagging right now?

There own worst enemy...

I find it sort of amusing, as if the Republican Party was not in thrall to it's most out on the lunatic fringe base, this MIGHT be a time to be making some moves into getting the mushy middle back.

But, when your defacto party leader is Sarah Palin, your most pressing issue is being driven by your leading constitutional scholar Orly Taitz, you still think your battle plan for the mid nineties is operational (the big bad liberal media is ruining our glorious American Conservative Christian Heritage) and your telegenic image is a bunch of cranky old Rich Southern White Guys insulting THE MOST QUALIFIED SCOTUS candidate in 75 years who has the misfortune of not being white....

It's no wonder Vognivitch and the last of the moderate GOP's is retiring.

Anyone see the picture of Bobby Jindal, Stimulus Denyer, with the BIG Government Check he was handing out?

Even though the lobbyists are targetting Dems..

Even thought the lobbyists are now targetting democrats on healthcare reform, the GOP virulent opposition to what will be such a wide and well received program - could potentially end the party.

The Dems have to keep their noses clean, thats all. The GOP will take the money because they have already drawn a line in the sand and the lobbyist money likes them where they are.

I see the political calculus to shape up to be a repeat of the demise of the whigs  = where in their case it was slavery = in this case, for the GOP , it will be lobbyism.

These polling numbers are still too high for the complete destruction of an entire political party, but they're heading in the right direction.

Winning Hearts & Minds

.... and this is the reason the Senate Democrats are caving to the Republicans on health care?
