Republicans and their CPAC poll

CPAC ends today, with a 2012 presidential preference poll. Who do you think will win?  I think it'll be Romney, probably by double-digits, over everyone else. Here are the choices:

The choices were: Florida Gov. Charlie Crist; former House speaker Newt Gingrich; former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani; former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee; Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal; Texas Rep. Ron Paul; Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin; Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty; former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney; South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, and "Undecided." There's also space on the ballot for a write-in candidate.
Though I think Palin will play a large role in the '10 midterm, I don't think she'll run yet-- neither do I bet that Jindal runs in '12.  Romney vs Huckabee is their '12 nomination battle, with a place for a third option, which right now looks like Crist, Sanford or Pawlenty. It'll be interesting to see if Crist has any support at CPAC, as he's probably the strongest in their field.

if Romney runs again

I bet he will skip Iowa this time. His Iowa co-chair thinks McCain was smart to skip Iowa.

So that would leave Huckabee to duke it out with Palin and ?? for the social conservative voters.

forgot to mention

that Pat Buchanan (whose sister worked for Romney) was on MSNBC today talking him up, saying GOP has nominated candidates who've lost earlier bids for the presidency (Nixon, Reagan, Dole).

Re: forgot to mention

Right, the 'next in line' is Romney.

Re: Republicans and their CPAC poll

I think it's between Palin and Romney. I gotta think Palin takes it but the fact that she's not there and Romney is probably hurts her.

Re: Republicans and their CPAC poll

Actually, Gingrich is the rock star at CPAC, so I expect him to do well, but not run.

Romney's conservative chops are a bit suspect, so while they may like him, the support is superficial.

I don't think Jindal will run in 2012 but I do think Sanford will.

My bet, Romney first, close second to Gingrich, third to Sanford.

Gotta agree with Jerome though, Christ would be their strongest candidate in the general election.  It's pretty telling as to where the Republican party is right now that he would never make it through the primary.

Actually, Supply Side Jesus would do well..

But, that real Christ guy has some funny ideas..

Heal the poor and sick..Sounds like Socialized Medicine to me...

Loafs and Fishes...Can you say Welfare?

Throwing the money changers out of the temple...
kind of an anti-wall street attitude?

And, he hung out with 12 unmarried men?

Well, You know what THAT means...

I think he is a little too center left for CPAC.

Well Put

The irony of all ironies is that Jesus would not be a part of today's Catholic Church if he were born in 2009 and he probably wouldn't be a part of most evangelical Christian churches either.

Re: Republicans and their CPAC poll

Why don't you think Sarah Palin will run?

She is the only one the conservative base is really excited about. And with 2012 promising to have such a weak field, this might be her best chance.

Re: Republicans and their CPAC poll

Palin is politically damaged material.  There's no way Palin would pull votes from the other side of the aisle.  Should she run, it would almost guarantee a Democrat victory.
