No One Ever Could Have Predicted: Roland Burris Edition

Gee, Roland Burriss, corrupt former Governor Blagojevich's hand picked successor to Barack Obama, is a liar? Ya don't say.
Sen. Roland Burris admitted in a document released Saturday that former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's brother asked him for campaign fundraising help before the governor appointed Burris to the Senate. The disclosure is at odds with Burris' testimony in January when an Illinois House impeachment committee specifically asked if he had ever spoken to Robert Blagojevich or other aides to the now-deposed governor about the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama.
And then there's this:
The affidavit also discloses for the first time that Burris told former Blagojevich advisers Doug Scofield and John Wyma of his interest in the post at a fundraiser in June, and later with Blagojevich chief of staff John Harris, who was arrested with Blagojevich on Dec. 9.Scofield, Wyma and Harris were among the Blagojevich associates Burris was asked about in his Jan. 8 testimony by state Rep. Jim Durkin, the impeachment committee's ranking Republican.
In response, Burris said he had spoken only to Lon Monk, a former Blagojevich aide-turned-lobbyist, last summer about his willingness to take the seat.
Great. Burriss has certainly made a mockery of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus who pushed for the Senate to seat Burriss, which, of course, was part of Blagojevich's master plan, but the harm will not be limited to individual Democrats in Congress. Expect a big show of Republicans going after a corrupt Democrat, beginning with members of the Illinois House.
Illinois House Republicans say they want U.S. Sen. Roland Burris investigated for perjury.State Rep. Jim Durkin told The Associated Press he and GOP leader Tom Cross will ask for an outside investigation into whether Burris perjured himself before a House committee investigating former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's impeachment.
On the bright side, this certainly makes it easier for Durbin to support opposition to Burriss in 2010 (if he makes it that long.)
