WH Comm Dir: Fox News is Arm of GOP

White House Communications Director Anita Dunn is on the mark:

The reality of it is that Fox News often operates as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party. And it's not ideological. I mean, obviously there are many commentators who are conservative, liberal, centrist, and everybody understands that. What I think is fair to say about Fox is -- and certainly the way we view it -- is that it really is more of a wing of the Republican Party.

Coming on the heels of the Obama White House's public snubbing of Fox News, this decision to call the network what it is -- a thoroughly partisan entity, not a news organization -- is another positive step from a communications team that is realizing that while it is important to reach out to the other side, there is only value in reaching out to those who are good faith actors rather than opposition hacks.

This is waht they need to do at the least. Conservatives today are in the same boat liberals were in 40 years ago and this was about the time that the Nixon White House went after the press, so maybe you can get some payback.

Who can be surprised? In China , the Murdoch Empire echoes the Chinese Communist Party line. They even eliminated the BBC from their satellite service in their agreement with the Beijing regime, so there are no pesky independents that irritate the Celestial Empire.

FOX is more evidence that the founders' belief that "power corrupts" is not limited to political office holders. The corruption of power infects many sections of society.

You won't find them doing the important work like fact checking comedy routines like that real news channel CNN.

Just pointing out that the White House using CNN as an example of real news is kind of funny. This is the organization that ran Michael Jackson updates 24x7. Remember that?

Has any news agency ever fact checked satire before? It is absolutely ridiculous.

Taking on Fox News is all well and good, but it shouldn't serve as a distraction from the need to confront unfair coverage from more "liberal" media sources as well. We all know Judith Miller didn't work for Fox.
