Define Honor In Politics...

This is a political low from McCain I didn't really expect.

In the IL State Senate, Obama supported a bill for age appropriate sexual education. In some cases, that means teaching young kids how to defend yourself against adult predators.

But John McCain's latest ad shows he's opposed to such education - or at least he is for political purposes:

Unbelievable.

Burton hits it out of the park:

"It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited  political attack against a father of two young girls - a position that his friend Mitt Romney also holds.  Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn't define what honor was.  Now we know why," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

"Shameful and downright perverse." Indeed.

the response ad is very simple

John McCain does not want to protect your children from child predators. A simple one line ad...devastating and true.

Re: the response ad is very simple

To be more on a little more on-message, I think Obama needs to come out and say:

"The reason Washington always fails to protect our kids and protect our families is because sleazy politicians like John McCain, Sarah Palin and George Bush like to play political games with issues as important as the threat of child predators."

Re: the response ad is very simple

Does anyone know where that ad's running??

This is so low that whatever media outlet, stations that picked up this garbage has got to PAY the PRICE for running it.  This is quitessential rethug puke.

Re: the response ad is very simple

Obama should show old man McBush in front of some pedophiles staring at children with the announcer saying McBush does not want to protect your children from predators, and show McBush also leering at the kids with his tongue out.

Okay, it's go time. Obama needs to take the gloves off and beat the shit out of this loser.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

Could be a good moment for Barack, too bad he'll be busy defending the "lipstick on a pig" gaffe he just made.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

What gaffe? That was a great line!

Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra.

"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."

"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."

"We've had enough of the same old thing."

We're going to lose.  As long as the Republicans are willing to slander us and we're not willing to slander them, we're going to keep losing.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

Obama just called Sarah Palin a pig and John McCain an old fish, all within one artfully constructed soundbyte of plausible deniability.

I think we're going to be ok.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

That's not enough.  If you want to win, you have to be willing to distort your opponent's record and denigrate their character.  The Republicans are doing this to Obama, why isn't are side doing this to McCain?

by BluePoster 2008-09-09 03:06PM | 0 recs
Re: Define Honor In Politics...

Luckily, based on this there will be no character distortion to show that McCain is a f'n scumbag, nor do we have to distort his 90% Bush vote record.  Let's hammer the crap out of this

more like

as long as our party is willing to nominate unelectable candidates who will not fight back like Barack and who are easy to smear like barack, THEN we will continue to lose. Us Hillary voters WARNED everyone back in the primary season Obama was unelectable. Sadly, it looks like we'll be right.

Self fulfilling prophecy

You don't want him to win so you do everything you can to bring that about, then bitch about why you don't think he will win. Seriously, get help.

I am not the one

who is convincing voters he is unacceptable. By being on this board, I am merely talking to other party faithful who will vote Obama come hell or highwater. I'm not the one who told people that Obama is a muslim with the middle name Hussein, and I'm not the one who made people so unwilling to vote for a black man.

Clearly a failure in your upbringing

That did it. Racism is usually ingrained from a failure of your environment, I dont blame you, I blame the cesspool that produced you.

Now if you dont mind, actual Democrats are trying to get elected.

by Brandon 2008-09-09 03:34PM | 0 recs
I'm sorry I'm just calling the electorate out,

not actually saying what I think. I know he's not a muslim and have nothing against his religion, but OTHER PEOPLE, yes, the people who vote, and I'm referring to Americans who aren't die hard liberals or liberal bloggers, OTHER PEOPLE believe the things about him, and yes many other people are the racists. I'm just calling out a truth that exist. Acknowledging racism of others is not racism, as pertending it doesn't exist except amongst those who say it does is just putting one's head in the sand, such as yourself.

who bets on the other team to win? in this environment, the GOP should be dead in the water, but they are usually in the MoE, or winning as of late.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

Of course McCain would go this low, look who he's got running his campaign.
It only goes to show that he's weak like Bush and will compromise what few principles he's got left to win.

by skohayes 2008-09-09 03:00PM | 0 recs
Uh, yeah.

That's why scumbags like him, you know, win elections.

The only appropriate response is to hit harder. Not lower, mind you, but much, much harder. Ring his damn bell.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

Took McCain longer than I thought to start acting like a Republican candidate. The hits will get a lot harder from here on out.

Now to see how Obama reacts.

McCain can only think about sex

This guy is a dirty old man.

If you dont believe me ask his first wife whom he left on a wheelchair so that he culd marry somebody 20 yrs younger.

If you still dont believe me, check his voting record as a senator, he is known to have voted in exchange for sex.

This is one old dirty man.

Re: McCain can only think about sex

That's the the type of thing that should be used in an attack ad.  John McCain's not principled, he's a scumbag.

Let's hope.  But that means the media will actually have to do their job for once.  Any predictions on the odds of that happening?

Re: This is all I got to say.

Well, I am on MSNBC and Contessa and Nora aren't buying McCain's spin on this.  Meanwhile, they are giving even more press to Obama's original statements that McCain's tax policy, foreign policy are all Bush and McCain's change is bs.  I think this is net Obama, but that is on MSNBC, haven't tuned into CNN yet.  Meanwhile Stephanie Cutter is ripping McCain apart about equal pay for women, about how McCain spews sexist remarks, etc.  We'll see

Re: This is all I got to say.

Oh, and Contessa ripped that guy about the sex video, but not enough to clearly drive home the point of the sex predator education, so on that hopefully there will be some return fire, this is a big smear by McCain and it shouldn't go unanswered.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

As far as Sarah Palin is concerned, we should be running commercials around-the-clock about how she would force rape-impregnated rape victims to remain pregnant against their will.  She even said she'd do this to her own daughter, why won't our side attack her over this?

by BluePoster 2008-09-09 03:20PM | 0 recs
This is McCain's Willie Horton Ad

McCain has crossed the line. If Obama wants to win this, he has 24 hours -- 48 if he's really lucky -- to make McCain wish he had never even thought of this garbage.

After that? Well, it's going to be out of his control, I think.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

One clarification - this was an Illinois State Senate bill from 2003 - not US Senate.

What I want to know is whether the cable and broadcast news media will run this for McCain, or is he having to actually buy time to spread his filth?

by geordie 2008-09-09 03:32PM | 0 recs
Cut through the BULL.

This entire election is bullshit.  The GOP refuses to talk about the issues so instead they undercut their opposition by claiming sexism, personal issues, media bias, and any other card they can.  Ultimately, AMERICANS will have their say and judging by the past; we can not trust them to make the right decision.

"America has not suffered enough, that's why they keep electing Republican Presidents."

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

I think the Obama camp should respond by asking why John McCain and Sarah Palin, a mother of five, is against protecting young children from sexual predators?

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

Absolutely!  This is a golden opportunity to slam McCain.  Make an issue out of his protection for pedophiles.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

Of course this could just be consistancy on Palin's part. She has after all had a Maverick record on this issue seeing as how most people oppose rape and incest and yet her state has had the highest percentage of both during her tenure as Governor and the police chief of Wassilla whom she appointed attempted to make victims pay for their own rap kit. The problem isn't that Palin doesn't know it's that she has consistantly shown she doesn't care.

Re: Define Honor In Politics...

You know what's crazy?  My sister, who lives in a certain southern exurb of Atlanta, actually pulled her kids out of the school they were attending because they gave them training on how to recognize a sexual predator.  Don't underestimate the narrow-mindedness of some people when it comes to their kids.  Being a parent myself, it's often a struggle to keep a level head about these sorts of things.

This is not to defend McCain in any way, but just be aware that among the batshit crazy fundie right, even talking about this stuff is a no-no.
