So far this summer, the polling has been pretty consistent in WA-08: Darcy down by 6 in June and July. But that was before her media campaign, which she began today with a great new bio ad up on cable and broadcast TV. They've committed to a solid six-figure ad buy for the week.

From Darcy's e-mail announcing the ad:

Our first TV spot is a sixty-second biographical ad that is intended to introduce me to primary and general election voters, especially the many new voters that we expect as a result of the exciting Presidential election. [...]

We are taking a calculated risk by starting our television campaign this early but we felt we had to act now before the Republican attack machine kicks into gear. In the 2006 campaign, my opponent and his national Republican allies spent millions running a series of nasty smear ads that had just enough effect to help him eke out a narrow victory.

Of course, if people weren't aware of who Darcy was, they got a quick intro on the local news in the wake of her house fire, so I think it's smart for her campaign to build on that media momentum with this ad. Hey, if ya got lemons...
