A Great Ad I'd Like to See

The Republican National Committee's independent expenditure arm today released an ad attacking Barack Obama using Hillary Clinton's words during the primary. According to The Politico's Ben Smith, Clinton herself isn't buying it.

"I'm Hillary Clinton and I do not approve that message," Clinton tells the New York delegation of McCain's ad that features her old criticism of Obama.

Clinton says Democrats are gathered in Denver for a "clear and specific purpose and that is to elect Barack Obama President of the United States," my colleague Amie Parnes reports.

"Now I ask each and every one of you to work as hard for Obama as you worked for me," she said.

That sounds like a great script for an ad to be put out by the Obama campaign, or even the Democratic National Convention -- Hillary Clinton speaking to camera, right after a brief excerpt of the RNC IE ad, saying "I'm Hillary Clinton and I do not approve that message... Now I ask each and every one of you to work as hard for Obama as you worked for me." What better way to dispel the false notion perpetuated by some in the media, and exploited with paid media by the McCain campaign, that Clinton isn't on board with the Democratic ticket of Obama-Biden this year?

I like it!

That would be a good ad. At least an internet ad.

Get this to the campaign pronto

Why oh why are the ad ideas online so much better than much of the crap these high-paid consultants come up with? Maybe I answered that myself.

u r right

why is that so?

also,  I may be in the minority but I would today make an ad with hillary in it hitting mccain,,,

also a web only ad hitting mccain on the nasty "get the bitch" comments his supporter said while he laughed

and his Janet reno/chelsea clinton joke

Has Hillary said anything about McSame?

I know she has repeatedly campaigned for Obama, but at the same time has she ever expressly gone negative on McSame?

she would become the life of the party if she hit mcsame with a 2 X 4.

I was just thinking yesterday

if Hillary really wanted obama supporters to help her retire her debt
she could nail McCain to the wall.

I suspect, she doesn't want to savage McCain cause she wants to keep the dlc/cocktail cirtcuit, cokie roberts, kristol types in her corner in 2012....

Re: I was just thinking yesterday

But Kristol has never been in her corner.  This is what he said on January 7.
"Thank you, Senator Obama. You've defeated Senator Clinton in Iowa. It looks as if you're about to beat her in New Hampshire. There will be no Clinton Restoration. A nation turns its grateful eyes to you."

That is a direct quote.   Nobody hates Clinton more than Kristol, so to see her followers lapping up what he says is disgusting.
If Hillary were the nominee, do you really beleive that Kristol wouldn't be attempting the first pre-election impeachment in history?

Those ads are for news cycle purposes.

those ads aren't actually distributed on broadcast TV, rather they're used to feed cable news cycles.

that's why they come out with a different one every day.

Re: A Great Ad I'd Like to See

Perhaps a better version of that concept would to show the new GOP ad where an actor is portaying a female Clinton supporter switching MCBush with Hillary saying she does not approve the ad.

Re: A Great Ad I'd Like to See

Could you restate this idea please? I do not understand what happens in your version.

Re: A Great Ad I'd Like to See

McSame has a new ad where an actor portraying a former Hillary supporter says she's voting for him rather than Obama.

It would be good to show the same ad with Hillary saying, "I'm Hillary Clinton and I DO NOT approve of this message."

Frickin' "Democrat" party

Really gets my goat. But yeah, get this out there too.

by conspiracy 2008-08-25 08:57AM | 0 recs
yeah right

How would that help Hillary?  At this late date, why do we still think she has any true desire to see Obama win?

Re: yeah right

Because she is a true and good DEMOCRAT.
Hillary knows that if Obama wins she will see a good deal of HER agenda signed into law. She also knows that when 2016 rolls around she will have another shot at the nomination if she still wants it... and if she doesn't she will have a loud voice in determining who it is.

I am so sick of the people who think Hillary is just for Hillary you can see it in her eyes when she talks: she WANTS obama to win

by JDF 2008-08-25 10:05AM | 0 recs
Agreed

Remember 2004? People said the Clintons wanted Bush to win so Hillary could have a clean run this year. At the convention, Bill in particular, sold Kerry better than Kerry did himself.

Re: A Great Ad I'd Like to See

It's not Clinton's job to put out Ads for Obama...when Clinton still has millions of dollars of debt from running her own ads in the primaries of which Obama has done little to help her pay off.  It's not Hillary's job to unite this party.  She has done all she can..she endorsed him.  It's Obama's job to unite this party..and judging from his actions...he doesn't care about uniting the party or is not capable of doing it.  It's a lack of leadership skills.

Re: A Great Ad I'd Like to See

Why is it Obama's job to pay of Clinton's debt?   Obama didn't have any debt when the primaries ended.   It seems to me that is mismanagement.

Now, why don't you take you ball and go over to RedState or NRO and play with your fellow homophobic, anti-choice, pro-war friends.

We know you are going to vote for McCain so that he can add more Scalias and Alitos to the Supreme Court.

by gavoter 2008-08-25 09:39AM | 0 recs
Why should he pay off debts incurred from...

...the running of attack ads against him? He shouldn't have to but he is doing it anyway. Bottom line is both sides need to give and take a little. Hillary herself is doing exactly that (my respect for her has grown exponentially since the end of the primary) so I can't see any reason why her followers can't do the same. Eyes on the prize people and quit squabbling.

Re: A Great Ad I'd Like to See

The ad would close with Hillary saying "I am Hillary Clinton and I approve of this message" followed by Obama saying "I am Barack Obama and I also approve of this message" reinforcing the point that they are together on this election.

Re: A Great Ad I'd Like to See

The Obama campaign has decided not to consult, talk or touch the Clintons with a 10 foot poll.  The obama's think the Clintons are satan and pure evil.  They would never ask her to do a TV ad for them.  Obama has too much pride to ask Hillary for anything.  He isn't even asking for her voters.  He's being very petty.

Re: A Great Ad I'd Like to See

This is not true.  If it were, the Clinton's wouldn't have plum speaking spots in the convention.

This is nonsense

You are being played by McCain and the GOP.

by conspiracy 2008-08-25 09:52AM | 0 recs
Re: This is nonsense

This is why the GOP almost always wins and the Democrats have only broken 50% once in 44 years.

As much as we think the GOP dislikes McCain, they are going to line up behind him 99%.

by gavoter 2008-08-25 10:30AM | 0 recs
Definitely

I wouldn't be surprised if most Repubs actually disliked McCain more than PUMA types dislike Obama by quite a margin yet they suck it up because they would rather not live with the alternative. It is why they always seem to win elections while Dems search in vain for that unattainable "perfect" nominee and almost always lose. We have seen this movie many, many times before.

A big fat I TOLD YOU SO

I haven't been active at this site in over a month now.  Got turned off huge by all the Puma Trolls and Puma Protection going on here.  Seems traffic is really low based on the comments.  All I can say is, I TOLD YOU SO.

Many of us said Hillary would be in McCain's ads.  True or not?  Many of us said her statements disqualified her to be VP.  How much more power would those ads have if she were his running mate?  Many of us feared her followers turning this convention into a mess and the news today is that's exactly what they plan to do, regardless of what Hillary says.

Hey Jerome, why don't you ban a few more people for telling it like it is?  If you've made amends in the last month or so, ignore this post and I apologize.  I got so sick of the troll coddling here I had to bag this site forever.  As I watch McCain use Hillary against Obama these days, I had to log back in and leave you all a little note.

All the best.  Hope you're still supporting Democrats around here.  For a while there, it certainly seemed in question.

Re: A big fat I TOLD YOU SO

Actually, I think this site has been pretty anti-PUMA since May.    Yeah, there are still posters here who will probably never vote Obama, but they are in the minority.

This site is much more balanced than say, Talkleft, that has gone completely off the deepend.   As much as Jeralyn and Armando publically claim that they support Obama, they have done nothing to stop the non-stop Obama bashing there.  In fact, anyone who attempts to support Obama over there gets troll rated and banned.   It happened twice to me.
