I just drove a couple hours West from NYC. In Pennsylvania somewhere. Not really sure where, though.
Where are you going for the holiday?

Going down to San Pedro, house party, slip & slide, tecate, Don Julio, sounds more like the 5th than the 4th, then again they're about the same in SoCal anyways
You dont know what a slip n slide is!
Its like this plastic tarp thingy that is covered in water and you run and then jump on it, and the water flies all over the place and you just slide through the entire thing.
tons of fun. just make sure there are no rocks underneath!
Ah I know what you are talking about. Yep I would agree about the rocks. At my age, if I slipped n sided folk would video and put it on YouTube as that "old lady slippin down the slide." LOL That makes even me laugh. Thanks for the info.
By the way, I have some nice abrasions from the slip'n slide, if youre not 12 or under I dont recommend it.
welcome back, post photos, glad that you made it through the slip n slide in one piece.
You know something. I think this has been the best diary I've read to date. It got where I kind of dreaded coming on to the political sites. Seemed like everyone was at each others throats. Pretty much tired of the fuss. But this thread has been great. I'm glad to get a chance to know more about ya'll. Happy week. 12 dogs
Hey!
Did you read reaperbot's post about bike riding?
Dunno but maybe this notion of posts where we get to know each other outside of candidates might be a good thing.
Nice people on both diary posts.
I know there are issues to be sorted out but right about now folks could use a break. The primary was tough.
God "grant" me the ability
To slog through this sensibly
And quickly I ask
So I can go play
Then make it a fun day
That lasts way past Sunday
And eases my brain
In mental holiday.
Amen.
Take care and get funding

"Slog" be the operative word here.
Thanks for the sweet prayer!
From your keyboard to some goddess' ears.
:D. Thank you. This morning was spent having short comings pointed out. Was feeling kinda like a f'up. Your kind comments put a smile on my face. Thank you for making me feel better. :)
What you're doing is really a wonderful thing. Grants here have built us a park with a walking trail, kids swings, and picnic tables. You know how they talk about "multi generational, multi use parks" well this one really is. I went to one park before ours was built. It was pretty but there was Henbit under the kids swings. A pretty thing no one used. Wasn't practical. A swing that kids use is dug out under the swings. But this one? Nothing. I think it worried folks that no one would want a park out in the country. A park not used? Not at our park. At our park? Kids use those swings. Our park? It's out in the middle of nowhere. By rights NO one in their right mind would put a park there. Who'd use it? That's what the naysayers said. But guess what? Grandpa's use our park for walking for post surgury exercise. College kids on break who need a place to run use our parks. Transplants who moved to the country that are delighted to have a place to play tennis. LOL Yeah a tennis court, can you believe it? They really do use our park. (I'm hoping we can get a tennis instructor from parks and rec.) Who else uses our park? A group of ladies before they go eat at the senior center. A mom with a kids birthday party. Families celebrating outside cause their house is too small. The road crews who cut the county roads and now get a place with tables and trees to eat. A cool place. It gets hot here in the summer. A grandma with visiting grandbabies who need a fun place to play. Kids learn to ride their bikes there. Mom's get exercise while they play. Swings and a walking path, picnic tables, and alittle grill. All out in the middle of nowhere. There's no Henbit growing under those swings. Our community couldn't have afforded this. A grant was applied for and accepted. It's beautiful. Now I hear another grant may get us mass transit further into the comunity. Most people work else where. Alot of them commute and we are a working folks here. This would be a bus line connected to the busline in the city up the road. Like the park it looks like a long shot that no one will use. I'm holding my breath that the grant folks don't believe this. I just have a feeling that money given to this community won't be wasted. Here "flowers" grow. People will use the mass trans and be happy to do so. They already commute. Thing is that gas is so expensive and the extra miles devalue the car. I'm prayin. Hope someone it lookin.
After this? We need a library. If been reading. There's a need for satelite libraries on a county system. It's expensive because of the building. They use to have the library van. The nearest library has horible hours for parents. The next one is 35 miles away. Our state now has a virtual library. We need a new kind of library. A kinda book mobile high tech thing. The kids here are smart. They need a new kind of library. A grant will help us do have this too.
Those folks that your grant is written to. If they tell you it's a long shot. If they say, "Who will use it?" You tell them about the little park in the Middle of Nowhere, Alabama. The one that's always full of folks. The one that some folks said was stupid because who would use it. You tell them from me. If it is a good and practical idea. If it will make life better? Like our park?
If you build it? They will come. Folks who they may never know will be the better for it. How many folks are able to say, "I have made children smile. I have helped the world."
You have.
I'm glad you know how to "slog" throught this grant stuff. I know those folks you're helping will be too.
Seriously.
Hugs,

So Obama believes that mental distress does not qualify for the health exception for late-term abortions? I guess he technically has never clarified what he believed to be fall under the health exception.
Obama better give the 'roots and liberals a wink on this one. He must think the wingnuts are going to fall for this one; even if they aren't dumb, McCain will still hit him for supporting late-term abortions in the first place so he loses in their eyes anyway. Obama should cut this pandering shit out fast because he's really pushing the "I'm not John McCain" storyline a little too hard.
Try to catch up.
It is quite common to be told that the SCOTUS appointments are a valid reason to line up behind the presumptive nominee.
Thanks for explaining...you're honestly so clever and witty that I just had no clue what on earth you might have been talking about! No, seriously! I mean it!
I believe you when you say you don't have a clue.
Not surprised at all.
Well, that's because...oh, wait, you did it again! How do you keep coming up with these? I'm not kidding! I'm serious! You are as clever as one of the South Park Guys! Keep up the great work!
Zing! That was really good! You are clever even in only a couple words! I wish I could do that! How can you keep coming up with so many great comments? I'm going to practice so I can do it, too! Really!
Oh my, have I struck a nerve?
Keep practicing, you'll get it someday.
That one was good, too! That must be why they call you Coldblue, because you are "ice cold" in your veins! This is how it's done, people! Take notes! Too cold! Too cold!
Who are you addressing? Certainly not me, because 'they' had no choice in my login name. Perhaps I missed the group vote where 'they' chose Johnny Gentle Famous Crooner for your login, as I would assume was the logic behind your conclusion.
But then your reply is what should I have expected; empty.
Hey, you got me on the name! Way to return serve, like Wimbledon! You are the pro! I can't even keep up! Seriously, do you do this for a living? I mean it! You are really good!!
I am definitely not the master! I can't even hold your interest! You're like the big bear who's all done with a meal...bored now! You are the best! I may sound like I'm kidding, but I'm not! I'm going to re-read everything you wrote so I can learn better! I can't believe I didn't even know you were joking about the Supreme Court!
More exclamation points in your comments might work.
Of course I was joking about the Supreme Court. We all know... well why bother to waste bandwidth, right?
It was funny because you were saying Obama would appoint a conservative supreme court, but I didn't even realize it! That's called wit! Wit, my friend! You slipped it right by everyone, right under their nose! Well done! You're so right! Obama really is a secret conservative! You have a gift for speaking the truth!
I'm relieved to see that you're so perceptive.
Here I thought that you were just another true believer.
No way, thanks to you I've "seen the light"! I've discovered the truth! I'm not even going to vote for Obama because I care about the Supreme Court! You may be witty and clever, but you are also 1,000% right!!
Don't take my word for it. God forbid you would be swayed by a blog comment.
No, it would be best to stick to your original position; Obama does.
Seriously, wtf is with this place today? The sad little army of Obama-haters is in full force.
Yes, it's all true. Obama will force women to have back-alley abortions with wire hangers. Obama will make Jesus his Vice President. Obama is a fraud and a liar and is just plain evil, and only YOU can bring us all to our senses with your brilliantly cutting diaries!
I'm more concerned with the people who AREN'T posting. I hope it's just the holiday keeping them off.
It's official...all 5 of the recommended diaries are critical of Obama thanks in large part to the 501st Dead-Ender Ghost Patrol.
(Say, isn't this Obama running against someone? A republican or something? Funny how we never talk about that guy...)
My brother's getting married this weekend, near the Poconos. And it's been raining on and off, and my parents are doing everything outside after the wedding.
Im in NM!! Its amazing; so many trees! but then again, having lived all my life in a desert, i think any kind of cluster of tress is amazing!
Home with family. I think that it's called a "staycation" up thread. I'd hoped to go to the beach but will be here at the inflatable cement pond. It's all good as the weather looks good and we have a BBQ at the ready.
Hope everone has a good un.

will be spent at yankee stadium for about 3-4 hours as they hopefully beat the red sox (i am not delusional though, they have lost every single game i attended this year... maybe its just me...)
Then I am making my way back to nyc, getting my travel bag, and getting OUT of the city (its a mess on the 4th).
I will then be going to Scranton, PA. Tomorrow going white water rafting and camping at night then coming back to nyc on sunday.
All of my family, aunts, uncles, cousins, faux cousins etc., gather at my brother's place. He lives right behind the area where some prime fireworks go off.
The keg is tapped at noon. We drink, eat ribs, burgers, hot dogs, baked macaroni and cheese (soul food style), greens, potatoe salad, baked beans, cole slow and whatever anyone else brings until the party ends.
If there's no alcohol induced familial arguments, it's generally a very good time.
