Joe Wilson Talks LIVE Today with Me & clammyc

Bumped - Todd

With the Democratic nomination contest finally over, Democrats now have the opportunity to put the rancor of last many months behind them and unite to defeat the Republicans in November by taking the White House and adding to our leads in the House and Senate.

Among the most important issues that will arise for the next administration is the question of accountability for the villains that preceded it in the Executive Branch.  Yesterday on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Richard Clarke suggested a "Truth and Reconciliation Commission".  Some would go farther, others less far.

But few in American politics today have as much personal knowledge and experience with the Bush Administration's lies and its mafia-style intimidation as Ambassador Joe Wilson, whom clammyc and I will be interviewing today at 2pmPST/5pmEST.  And topic we'll be covering?  Accountability for Bush and his cronies after that glorious day on which they leave office.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ambassador Wilson for the first time at a Los Angeles fundraiser for Ron Shepston.  I know there are some hard feelings in progressive blogosphere about things the Ambassador may have said about the primary race.  But Joe Wilson is and remains a true American hero willing to lay everything on the line for this country.  At the fundraiser, he gave a rousing 30 minute speech, and went well beyond the call of duty by staying past midnight to speak with all the guests, even though he had a plane to catch at 6am the next morning.  My brother Dante and I spoke with him for over an hour in an amiable (if heated at times when it came to the primary race) discussion of the current state of political affairs, and what the necessary steps will be to fix what's wrong.  And quite frankly, this strong Obama supporter came away with a great deal of admiration for the man: he's just the sort of aggressive progressive willing to take a stand for what he believes in that we need going forward.

Oh, and his book is one heck of a read, too.  After all, this is the same guy who defied Saddam Hussein to arrest and execute him by holding a press conference with a noose around his neck from the American Embassy in Kuwait, and the same guy who later took on the Bush Administration at the height of its popular and power in a defiant act of courage and patriotism--and, as he would say, of citizenship.

Of perhaps the greatest interest among the many topics covered in his speech and the conversations afterward was the subject of accountability for the Bush Administration after it leaves office.  Ambassador Wilson, sporting a new buzz cut that made him appear more ex-military than ex-State Department, wasted no time in laying out various suggestions that ranged all the way from trials for treason to interesting ideas on jump-starting war crimes tribunals abroad to obstruction of justice charges for Bushco in the wake of the Scooter Libby pardon--and those are just a few.  And that's what clammyc and I will be speaking with the Ambassador about in today's BlogTalkRadio interview.

If you're interested, come check it out and give us a listen!  In our newly unified Democratic Party, the fight to hold the Republicans accountable not only at the ballot box but also in the court of law has barely begun.

Re: tips

I'd like to know how much of Wilson's slamming of Obama was pro-Clinton bias, because a lot of it seemed fairly ridiculous. Especially his attacks on his experience, when Obama is as experienced as... well, Lincoln, for example, another President from Illinois.

What time is it exactly? 4PM Eastern?

Also, I'd love for you to ask Ambassador Wilson about his repeated overly-harsh hit pieces on Obama during the campaign. They were very divisive and uncalled for. He could have written about the strengths of Senator Clinton without trying to knock down Senator Obama as he did in many of his Huffpost blog entries

Re: What time is it exactly? 4PM Eastern?

I see that you want to take everyone to task who supported Clinton and vocally disapproved of Obama.  Interesting.  Will you do the same to those who supported Obama and vocally disapproved (and in many cases disrespected) Clinton?  Just wondering.

Let us discuss specifics

I'm not really in the business of going after people for their support of a candidate. I'm not sure how you took my question for Joe Wilson as taking on "everyone" who supported Clinton and not Obama. If you have someone in mind, a supporter of Obama, who you'd like my opinion on, I will be more than willing to share it.

Re: Let us discuss specifics

Ok, so you aren't going after everyone.  I know the Obama supporters didn't like what he had to say about Obama but I still find him to be one of the few lone voices out there who will speak the truth about the pack of criminals who are running this country.  He isn't some hack who has gotten full of themselves this primary season.  I think he has earned his cred by being more than a flash in the pan trying to get famous off of the Dem primary.

Re: Let us discuss specifics

I suggest you stop lumping all Obama supporters together.  Also, please note, support for Obama isn't generally an attack on Hillary.

Thanks.

This still doesn't explain

the tone of his articles on Obama. It was very unnecessary and served no purpose that would advance the cause of democrats or those who are opposed to he himself had been fighting for. I take issue particularly with him because of his good record.

What makes you think

he 'took on' the bush administration.

Could you please list the consequences of his actions to the neocon agenda, specifically what other than a huge distraction for the liberal intelligencia was accomplished?

What impression was created about the Bush administration that a) didn't already exist, and b) wasn't about to exist based on the lack of weapons?

Also, could you ask him how he plans to walk back from some of the things he has said about our nominee?

I saw a video of him recounting the saddam story for an intimate group of hillary supporters during which he assures the group that hillary HAD to vote for the amuf, claiming it was the ONLY responsible thing to do.

Could you please ask him what he thinks would have been the outcome had people like Hillary not voted for the amuf and instead helped provide a united democratic party against the president.

He claims the vote was a needed to prevent war, yet war we have.

Thanks.

Re: What makes you think

Consequence - his CIA wife's identity was revealed (an act of treason, btw).

Re: What makes you think

Did you even read my post?

How did joe's actions in anyway disrupt the neocon agenda?

Re: What makes you think

At least he tried to disrupt it.  Can you name one person who has disrupted the neocon agenda?

Re: What makes you think

please see the follow up post.

Why did he wait until the bombs were already falling on civilians?

this is snark, right?

Re: What makes you think

to add.

Polls before the war showed the American people were strongly opposed to invading Iraq.

Why did Wilson wait until the bombs were already killing civilians to write his op/ed?

The State of the Union was supposedly the moment he realized the lies. Why did he wait so long to come out?

Re: Joe Wilson Talks LIVE Today

And big kudos to him for everything he has tried to do.  I respect the hell out of this guy, and I would say that even if he had supported Obama.  Everthing isn't about the primary race folks.. we need to remember there are still people in power who have committed criminal and heinous acts in our name and with our money.  They need to pay, and pay big.

Re: Joe Wilson Talks LIVE Today

Was Joe involved in the stealing baby incubator story of '91?

He must have know it was bullshit. Why didn't he speak out then?

Re: Joe Wilson Talks LIVE Today

man, you're so pissed at Wilson for his statements in the primary that you're willing to just throw him right under the bus?

Nice.

Re: Joe Wilson Talks LIVE Today

You know, I remember there was a lot of anger directed at Clinton supporters who were jumping all over people whose only crime was supporting Obama.  Why the double standard?

Re: Joe Wilson Talks LIVE Today

I think part of it might be his friendship with Larry Johnson who runs No Quarter.  That blog went far past dislike of Obama and is now actively trying to get McCain elected.  The comments over there were so over the top that Johnson actually had to step in and say that people shouldn't threaten to hurt Obama.  There have routinely been extremely racist posts and comments on that blog.  I don't agree with guilt by association, but I'm pretty sure that there have been interviews with Plame on that blog and her book is advertised there.  That makes me seriously question what is wrong with these people.  I hope that Wilson is asked about his friendship with Johnson, and his opinion of No Quarter during this primary season.
