I'm not saying there's any danger, mind you...  Just exercise normal caution.

Re: Yes, advice:

Amazing how it's the Inspired Ones so full of Hope and who want CHANGE who's first thought was that Clinton would poison Obama, huh?

But they want party unity, dontcha know?  And do NOT criticize Obama in any way (which includes not even criticizing him but not praising him to high Heaven) because that means you're a troll and a McCain hack.

Re: Yes, advice:

Geez, I am regularly called a troll, a DINO, a McCain hack, been told that I am going to vote for McCain, am a Republican, etc.

You can't stand being called Inspired Ones when Obama's whole campaign is about how inspiring he is?

Toughen up!

by Juno 2008-06-05 05:38PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes, advice:

Toughen up?  You complain about being mistreated in every thread.

by Jess81 2008-06-05 05:40PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes, advice:

No, I don't.

I complain about how Obamans claim to be all about inspiration and hope and change and ending politics as usual and ending divisive, negative politics but then proving they themselves cannot change.

How a person treats another person, including me, is a reflection of them, not the person they're addressing.

Besides, it's totally irrational to take anything personally on a blog.  But I will note the BS about the whole hope/change/unity thing.

by Juno 2008-06-05 05:43PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes, advice:
No. Not all Obama supporters are naive fools who don't understand how Washington works. Just as all Clinton supporters aren't argumentative jerks who never have anything new or interesting to add to the conversation.

Re: Yes, advice:

Oh, okay, we'll just joke about Clinton poisoning Obama.

That's acceptable.

Hmmm...why?

Oh, i know, because it continues the Clinton-as-devil meme.

So much for change.

Re: Yes, advice:

You're painting with an awfully broad brush. You're taking this comment, which indeed was tasteless (although, as usual, I find that the most tasteless part was that it wasn't funny) and applying that to be the attitude of all Obama supporters and, indeed, the candidate himself.

As such, I can just as easily call you a racist troll, because, hey, you're a Hillary supporter, and Larry Johnson's a Hillary supporter.

Do you get it? Stop starting troll feedback loops.

by Geiiga 2008-06-05 08:57PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes, advice:

Feel free to point to where I call "all Obama supporters naive fools."

Since I didn't, would that be a lie, by any chance?

Re: Yes, advice:
Should I assume by your comment that you do NOT consider the people you speak of to be naive or foolish?

Re: Yes, advice:

You're admitting you made it up.

So, you lied.

Got it.

by Juno 2008-06-05 06:34PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes, advice:
No, YOU are lying. Because I never made the claim that you said that. That was my own characterization of anybody who is voting based on inspiration. I have no time for that horse crap. I'll gladly take their vote, and Obama will gladly take their money, but they're invariably bound to be disappointed.
by vcalzone 2008-06-05 06:42PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes, advice:

You accused me of lying and have yet to say what those lies are/were, despite my asking you to do so.

It's okay for you to characterize people based on their actions but it is lying and/or not okay if I do so????

More double standards.

I'm off to bed.  Nighty-night.

by Juno 2008-06-05 06:45PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes, advice:

I accused you of lying by saying that Obama supporters all support him because he makes them feel inspired. That is a lie.

But my problem isn't lying, it is that none of this is productive or dignified. And my problem with you is that you seemingly have no interest in any of those qualities.

Re: Yes, advice:

You seem to think that "change" seems to mean "allowing yourself to be abused and not complaining about it" .

You still have your rec/rating rights even if you smash and bash indiscriminately everyone around you. Most Obama supporters in this site have long since lost them without explanation in one of those usual Jerome's purges against Obama supporters.

So, if you want to troll-rate or hide-rate that comment about poisoning, feel free to do so. Those of us who were inclined to do so are incapable of doing so because of your fellow Clinton supporter Jerome.

So don't complain about our incapacity to help maintain standards in this site, when you people deprived us of that capacity on purpose.

Re: Yes, advice:

Juno,
This is not productive. You know none of us thinks anyone is perfect. We have to support someone though. There are a ton of things your candidate has done that can be perceived badly, but in a nuanced world we can still accept that candidate. The world is not black and white, but shades of grey.

When you say make glaring generalities and oversimplifications
I feel very frustrated because I value an honest and
polite discussion
therefore I request you dial down the rhetoric and try to assess all candidates logically.

thank you,
Alec

by alectimmerman 2008-06-05 05:53PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes, advice:

I haven't said anything about any of the candidates.

It's Obama supporters on this thread saying their first thought upon reading this was that Clinton would poison Obama (Yes, I know it was in jest).

I'm simply noting how odd such thoughts are for people who've supposedly been inspired to change and hope and all that stuff.

My rhetoric is just fine.  The double standards are rather thick, though.

by Juno 2008-06-05 05:57PM | 0 recs
Is there a reason

you are using the plural when only one individual made a stupid comment, was called out for it and received to hide ratings?  Nice broad brush you have there.

Re: Yes, advice:

That's not what Obama's campaign is about - He talks about many issues - the war, security, education, environment, jobs, energy, veterans care, etc.

Re: Yes, advice:

No, I don't.

It's what he ran on, and I've heard plenty of his supporters talk about how inspiring he is.

"I want to gleefully talk about how inspired I am but don't call me inspired."

Huh?

I think it's perfect, frankly.

Re: Yes, advice:

Okay, then keep being snarky and slinging epithets.  Don't expect anyone to be nice to you though.

by Jess81 2008-06-05 05:38PM | 0 recs
Re: Yes, advice:

Ah, but I do.  I expect people who want change to MAKE the change.

If you are saying you can't make the change so long as people are not nice, then you are saying Obama's main campaign theme was hooey.

Besides, I think Inspired Ones is a perfect epithet to use when people are behaving in a less-than-inspired manner.

I notice you don't have a problem with people joking about Clinton poisoning Obama.  Interesting (scratches chin and makes curious thinking face).

I never said I had inspiration. You did. Look, if you have a problem with a few really hardcore Obama supporters, then feel free to go after them. But we are not all the same, and I would appreciate it if you would address the individual commenter and stop speaking as if we are all nitwits. I can't believe I keep having to say this sort of thing to you.

Re: Lies

Btw, I think it's a lie to say you want change and hope and inspiration and an end to negative, divisive partisan politics but then get on a blog and call people jerks and idiots and joke about Hillary Clinton poisoning Barack Obama.

I don't know if you've noticed with all the posting, but while you have done nothing but attack all Obama supporters for simply being Obama supporters and making ANY sort of joke about Hillary, all that anyone has attacked you on has been your own negativity. You'd have to be crazy to think that was anything but a tasteless joke, of course, but if you were crazy enough to think that it was anything but a tasteless joke, then you'd be justified in your belief that it was somehow a misogynistic racist underhanded attack on the greatest woman who ever lived only to have her destiny thwarted by a bunch of evil bloggers and left wing media types who lay awake at night plotting ways to strengthen the glass ceiling and keep women subjugated and disenfranchised, but are they ever wrong, because not even if Hillary calls for unity against the GOP in November will those who can see through the lies ever, ever, ever, vote for that evil man and his terrible coalition of chauvinistic pig army of Obomabatshit crazy worshipers who think they can get away with this.

Oh, Juno.

Have you ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy?  Or that famous Lewis Carroll quote, "Sentence first, verdict afterwards"?

Whether you have or not, the fact remains that you seem to have a preconceived opinion and ignore all evidence that doesn't fit your beliefs.  Thus, for you, anything that one Obama supporter says represents the beliefs and attitudes of all Obama supporters--unless said supporter is being kind, patient, and magnanimous, in which case he or she is merely a rare exception.  Do I have this about right?

It is realistic to worry about all of them; especially the ones in the Presidential arena. Our nation had had a tragic history in this area, and the safety of Presidents or Presidential candidates is nothing to joke about. And, if I may add, it is not an issue to make political points with either.

This comment is awesome but I found the previous one about "Inspired Ones" a bit insulting.

A lot of us who supported BO in the primaries do not think he walks on water or that we have some monopoly on hope or inspiration.  By insulting all BO supporters when one poster makes a less-than-tasteful remark only adds to the dischord.

Re: Yes, advice:

I think the original comment points to how difficult it is to be "humorous" about this and how easy it is to make inappropriate "jokes."

I totally understand why the poison insinuation pisses people off, even though it was an obvious attempt at humor.  And I think it is appropriate to let the poster know that the comment was not appreciated.

It is the endless, "look how classy (Clinton or Obama) supporters are, NOT!" cycle we seem to be in that is starting to get tiresome.

Frankly, at this point, if you are an Obama supporter (which I am) I think you either need to say nice things about Clinton or just say nothing at all. She has conceded the race, sent out an awesome e-mail, and shutdown the "draft Hillary for VP" campaign.

Of course, I am absolutely living in a glass house here.

Again, no insults intended and I do apologize if my clumsy attempt to explain myself just causes more flames.

Re: Yes, advice:

You still have your rec/rating privileges and you didn't HR/TR it either.

But you bash Obama supporters, most of which have had the rating privileges removed, for not doing what you didn't do either.

Re: Yes, advice:

I hope you understand those people who TRed/HRed it will now (according to the rules at least) lose rating/reccing privileges.

So you basically taunt the few remaining Obama supporters who retain rating privileges into losing them. If they don't TR/HR those comments, they don't want peace. If they do TR/HR them, they lose privileges hereafter. What a win-win situation for Juno and you and your ilk.

Stay classy indeed.

Yes but Michelle ...

Is going to kill whitey.  I can not tell you how many times over just the last two days I have seen Hillary supporter after Hillary supporter post this on various sites.  They are all posting how the Democrats have lost their values by nominating a Muslim who stole the election from a real American.

There is a very vocal section of HRC supporters who are convinced that Michelle wants to kill all whitey and get revenge against white society.  That Obama wants to give all our money to Africa because we stole it from them.

Have you gone around and troll rated all these people on all the various sites (including some that claim to be on the left)?  You say that Obama can not be about change because some of his supporters are using old techniques.  Under that same logic I could infer that the Clintons must be racist because some of her supporters have said they would never vote for a Black man.

I get it, you are angry, but there is still a whole lot of BHO hatred out there too, and it has grown exponentially in the last few days.

I am not holding you responsible for the actions of every HRC supporter, so please don't make generalizations about Obama supporters.

Re: Yes but Michelle ...

you won't see those types of comments here over and over and cheered on.

In fact, we know who posts those diaries and they are mocked or ignored by the majority of HRC supporters here.

I've wrote to the admins about those types of diaries here, have you?

I just expected better from some.  whatever.

by colebiancardi 2008-06-05 07:30PM | 0 recs
No, I haven't

I have never written to the admins about any post.  Nor have I written to them directly on any blog.  I figure we are big kids and can work it out ourselves.  I would rather have the readers and posters self censor.

The point of my post was to some of the more angry Clinton supporters here who have been upset about the comments.  There have been vicious nasty attacks on both sides.    Yes, I know that most HRC supporters don't think that about the Obamas, and I won't hold Hillary responsible for them.

So if someone makes a joke about HRC and BHO doing each other in, lighten up.  At least these comments only have them attacking each other.

Then again, maybe we should have let them settle this Thunderdome style.  Forget all the elections, just put the two of them in a cage and let them beat the sh*t out of each other.  Maybe that can help end the anger.

It won't stop.  It will never stop.  They hate her so much and have been so programmed to suspect every Clinton sneeze as some sort of devilish plot.

It's over, they won, but they still can't stop trying to destroy her good name by insinuating suspicion.

That said, I hope that Hillary and Obama (I did that alphabetically, by the way so don't accuse me of placing her ahead of him) can reach an accord that some of their supporters can't, and find a way to utilize the best trait of both of them to fight McCain the the fall.  Personally, I want her as Senate Majority Leader, not some trophy VP slot.

We know that all of you don't hate her.  But we have to acknowledge that there are those who did and still do.

Refer to my comment in response to the belligerent poster and my history.  The response to my comment are completely over the top.

I suppose given the raw nerves of many commenters, I can understand some sensitivity, but really?  I make a statement implying that Hillary must have some respect for BO to have invited him over and the replies go batshit accusing me of Hillary-hate!

Again, I said Barack should be careful because since he was on her turf, it would have been embarrassing for him to get kicked out for being too accusatory or demanding in his dialogue as there were those already implying that they might vent their primary frustrations.

The fact that so many are so eager to accuse and berate is additional evidence of what the "real" problem is in our party right now - and it is NOT Barack or Hillary.  It's us.

Your juvenile rant is neither impressive or

warranted.  Do you even look at that 'whole' comment or into the history of an individual's comments before inserting your foot in your mouth?

A question regarding what I meant by "take it easy" might have been in order, especially when it was clear I was stating that it would seem to me that Hillary would not invite someone into her home that she didn't respect.  So then why would it be assumed that somehow I would be saying in the same statement that she had nefarious intentions?

When I said take it easy, I was simply implying that I hoped Barack would take it easy in the dialogue - not demand, not point fingers, etc.  It would have been a shame to have cameras catching him being kicked out.

I didn't say he should "watch his back" or "not drink the water."  Of course, the fact that you could take such a leap speaks to your derangement, not mine.  You need to step away from the keyboard and go outside and get some fresh air.  You have obviously become too entrenched in partisan warfare to be able to see the forest for the trees.

Also, given the tone and verbiage within your comment and several below, it is apparent that someone left the damn gate open!!!!

Re: Barack Obama Meeting with Hillary Clinton Toni

There's always this:

This morning in Virginia's Appalachian mountains, 95-year-old Charles Edwards presented Barack Obama with a big maple stick that he had carved as a gift. Obama held it in his hand and shook it, smiling:

"I like it! And if members of Congress don't pass my health care bill, I'm ready. I'll whoop `em. I'll whoop `em. That's right. They'd better not mess with me. I'll have that stick."

The power of the "stick," of course, is whether a president can mobilize members of the public in large enough numbers to cause members of Congress that thought they wouldn't back his initiatives to suddenly turn around and support him....

Oh, wait.

Re: Barack Obama Meeting with Hillary Clinton Toni

I think it bodes well.  No doubt there will be a bit of clearing the air, and some honest talk about how to accomodate Hillary's wishes after her accomplishments during the campaign.

I also think she'll find out she won't be VP, for myriad reasons.  But certainly, she's earned something nice that she wants, and there will be a big recognition for her at the convention.

I'm also sure not only that Obama will pave the way for both Hillary and Bill to regain their reputation with African Americans, but it will also be on them to heal the rift with women.

There will be no more talk of sexism, mysogyny, nor of her claim to the popular vote.

Oh please.

I haven't seen a single diary on the DKos rec list anywhere near as nasty as the trash that was routinely rec-listed here, nor were Hillary supporters on DKos ever deprived of rec rights for no valid reason as so many Obama supporters were here.  Not to mention that unlike here, where non-primary but important and content-filled diaries were almost universally ignored in favor of anti-Obama hate screeds, non-primary diaries made the rec list regularly over there, as did a number of diaries by Hillary supporters.

Anybody from MyDD calling DKos a hate site ought to heed the famous advice about eyes, motes, and beams.

FORMER Kossacks.  The Kos that most people here base their hatred off of hasn't existed for several months, but since they couldn't be bothered to check back, they simply assume that nothing has changed.

And I stand by what I said before: at its worst, the anti-Hillary sentiment there was no more virulent or universal than the anti-Obama hysteria was here.  If anything, it was less so, because non-primary diaries were embraced there as places where both sides could find common cause, whereas here they were totally ignored in favor of "OMG HE FLIPPED HER OFF--WITH TWO FINGERS!".

Only Good Will Come Of This

These are professional politicians who are going to put party first.  There are frayed feelings and desires on each side and both are empathetic and pragmatic people.

This is still a great sign though.  I hope this leads to a very soon joint appearance with some good symbology and strategy (maybe a swing together through Florida, Ohio and Penn?).

I think we need some strong visuals of the two together (and maybe Bill thrown in as well or maybe side trips with Bill and Obama together).  And not just one time, multiple times, that will really help us who arent so professional and pragmatic.

But honestly, at this point I dont care too much.  Im already at the stage where I am confident things will work out and all we need is time and it will probably happen quicker than I hope.

I wonder if the President is there

and part of any deal should be Obama, to go on the Daily Kos, write a column that is highly positive and praising of the Clintons. Tell them to stop throwing names and rumors and bs scandals around. Second, tell every black pastor to never EVER smear the Clintons the way they did in this campaign. Make sure every Jeremiah Wright and Pfleger shut their mouths about them.

Re: I wonder if the President is there

Maybe when she runs down and does something to all the Clinton supporters who posted the Muslim terrorists claims, the "Go back to Africa" stuff, the Sambo dialect jokes, the vicious remarks about Michelle, the abuse of ministers and the black church, and so on . . .  You get the idea. Unity is hard but you can't ask for what you do not give.

Re: I wonder if the President is there
And every day for the next four years Hillary can
  1. Attest that he did indeed pass the Commander in Chief threshold.
  2. Swear on a Bible that he's not a secret Muslin instead of the "as far as I know" answer.

Re: Hillary Clinton as vp

Over at talkleft most people want him to make it on his own--out of anger I think.  I personally think Hillary would be a much stronger advocate for her issues in the Senate, and I think they'd welcome back very easily.  I think people who don't think so haven't run for office.  Its no easy thing to amass 18 million supporters in a hotly contested election, without enough money, with out the support of the press, and without the support of the party.

Re: Hillary Clinton as vp
It's 17 million and they are not "hers"
A large percentage are Democrats and would easily vote for Barack Obama.  They voted Clinton because they know the name.  People don't' belong to a candidate.  Voting for them does not mean you own them.

This person, by Sam Wise Gingy on Thu Jun 05, 2008 at 10:25:34 PM EST, joked about Barack, watch the silver and listening devices and said just kidding.  I joked back and pointed out since the meeting is at her house maybe she should watch the silver.  Keep up and relax.  If you can make a right wing smear out of that exchange we are in for a bumpy ride.

Also encourage their use in the office.  Been a remote worker a lot for years, always try to show up in the office with some foam weapons from time to time to completely disrupt productivity...

Obama Hate at Talkleft

If you really don't believe that there is a lot of Obama hate out there, check out this thread at talkleft

Look at the postings from tek and from shannon and from many others.

Look at how people comment how funny the thread is.  yeah, because saying Michelle wants to kill whitey is really funny.

This is really where you get into hate speech.

I have yet to see or read anything here against Hillary that is as bile filled and hate filled as this.

And yet Armando and Jeralyn do nothing about these people.

JUST A THOUGHT...

Thomas DeFrank in the New York Daily News today:  "Stick a fork in Hillary, no use a STAKE instead" Ah now the Obama loving press wants us to believe that Hillary Clinton is a vampire.  This is after Don Imus has referred to her numerous times as Satan.  And they wonder why we're still pissed off.  If the situation were reversed they wouldn't use anything near this language about Obama. Mr DeFrank is a frequent guest on Obama's campaign manager's show, better known as Hardball.

And just what constitutes my petard?  That Saint Barack won this nomination on the backs of NON-DEMS in Iowa?  Or the fact that he gets 92-96% of the vote from his particular enthic group and we are FORBIDDEN to even mention it.  Or that "thrill goes up my leg" press that he gets just never lets up.  Bill C was described by frequent Matthews guest Tom DeFrank this morning in my paper as "rabid", yesterday HRC was described needing a "stake" stuck in her.  This motherfucking horseshit would NEVER be tolerated if Edwards or Obama were in the same spot. Re: JUST A THOUGHT...

Well, fine, but I think you'll find that the level of discord over the Obama nomination is going to decline pretty rapidly around here.  Have you noticed the number of diaries by formerly incendiary posters who have come around to acceptance of the outcome and willingness to support the Democratic candidate lately?  If you continue these unequivocal attacks I'm guessing, given your tendency toward inflammatory statements, that you are going to get a lot of push-back and resistance.  It's a thin line between principle and trolling sometimes, I mean if I went over to Red State and stood on my principles I would be rightly considered a troll, wouldn't I, or at best a pet lefty?

Re: JUST A THOUGHT...

You are absolutely right about these media comments, they are ridiculous. But to pretend that they have only happened to HRC, only due to sexism, is also ridiculous. There are people, as we speak, selling t-shirts with monkey images on them, depicting BO.

You are so mad at a few supporters who read and reply to blogs: the majority of supporters on either Dem side are even-keeled, reasonable, patriotic Americans who would support either candidate against McCain in November. No one has forbidden anyone from mentioning that African Americans voted for BO (although your stats are laughably off..are you really asserting that 96% of Americans who voted for BO are African American?) It is the implication that these votes are somehow invalid, or worth less, and that AA's are only voting for him because of his race, that is racist and "horseshit."

Imus is an idiot who called female college basketball players "nappy-headed ho's." Are you really wasting valuable energy being indignant at anything he says? Of COURSE he uses sexist rhetoric, it gets him ratings with right-wing jerks.

I would condemn all day anything Rush Limbaugh says, or anyone on Fox News, but I also recognize that they have an agenda and they are using the most effective weapons at their disposal to spread it, including sexism and racism and fear. If I want it to stop, I write letters, boycott their advertisers, and confront THEM, not the supporters of the Dem candidate who is as progressive and as much a feminist as the woman who ran against him. I am sure BO would defend HRC if he heard someone imply that she is a vampire. If you are really honest, there were some moments in this campaign when HRC had a chance to defend racist language against BO, and she chose not to.

"Resentment is like swallowing poison and waiting for the other person to die."

Re: JUST A THOUGHT...

According to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey Obama gets 96% of the black vote when pitted against McCain. he received I believe 92% of the black vote in SC when pitted against Clinton and Edwards (both of whom have strong civil rights records).

by handsomegent 2008-06-06 09:21AM | 0 recs
Imus called Obama

"almost a bigger <nasty expletive> than Hillary"

Clearly the "almost" means he's in the tank for BO.

It's not about Obama

It's not Obama loving press. It's a bias against Hillary. I think partly due to some of her baggage -- she does have some. But mostly it's sexism.

Just the same as we have seen some veiled racism in this campaign in the press -- and likely there will be more to come. Which is unacceptable. There has been a lot of veiled and not so veild sexism as well. And that has nothing to do with Obama himself. Rather with the press and some of the public who accept it and think it's OK.
