Charlie Brown leads the fight against FISA

Charlie Brown steps up. In a R+11 CD, he opposes FISA. Here's a career military officer who flew surveillance missions all over the world for the Air Force and NSA for most of his Air Force Career, and is running as a Democrat in the most red district in CA, and he opposes FISA.

Read his blog post on FISA, What Warrantless Wiretapping Means to Me. Charlie Brown has real, actual first hand experience with this issue. On Calitics, a post from D-Day yesterday, asked Brown about FISA:

As soon as I brought up the FISA bill, Brown sighed. He said there was no way he could support the bill that was passed in the House, and he in particular cited the telecom immunity aspect for a variety of reasons. "When I was gathering intelligence, if I ever picked up information outside what was authorized, I would have to flag the tape and immediately deliver it to my commanding officer for destruction," he said. "If I didn't, I'd be sitting at Leavenworth." To treat the phone companies in a different way that he would have been personally treated seems unfathomable.
And yet, the Telecom corporations get just such a different treatment from many Democratic politicians. Why?

He's pretty badass.  I remember hearing something about him donating 5-10% of donations he receives to wounded veterans organizations.  He's a patriot in every sense of the word.

Well, last thing I knew Brown is not yet a member of Congress. Until he's in a position that matters (as opposed to candidate for an office), then his being for or against any policy, including FISA, is pretty worthless. Let's see if he can win before suggesting that he's leading any fight.

Oh?

You mean 'win' like Barkey wins? By lying yer ass off to get the votes and them telling the voters to go screw themselves.

Like Barkey Obama?

Listen pal, I've met and talked with Mr. Brown and he is the real deal. He stands a good chance of winning in a ReThug district because he is a genuine patriot. Not an empty suit like many that could be named.

Oh...

Yeah, you are contributing some cash to Brown's campaign?

Right?

Re: Charlie Brown leads the fight against FISA

God forbid we have a thread that talks about a candidate besides Obama for a second.  You really can't help yourself, can you?

Re: Charlie Brown leads the fight against FISA

I've put together a nice list of other Congressional candidates who also are against the current FISA bill.

great list, but you forgot Rob Hubler

Rob Hubler, our Democratic candidate in IA-05 (running against the odious Steve King) has also released a strong statement against the FISA bill:

by the way, IA-05 is R+8

the reddest district in Iowa.

Re: Charlie Brown leads the fight against FISA

Are you really asking why?  The answer is because they get dollars from the telecom companies.

Yea, I don't think that's it though, not all of it.

Re: Charlie Brown leads the fight against FISA

Charlie is awesome.  He is the POSTER BOY for this issue; someone who has actual intelligence gathering experience, understands the issue, and unlike most of the Congress... has actually read the bill.

One note, however - this is not the reddest district in California.  It's the reddest one where we have a chance, but the Central Valley districts of Kevin McCarthy and Devin Nunes are redder.  And the contours of CA-04 are changing for the better, too - a recent poll for the Brown campaign showed party self-ID almost even.

not the "reddest district"

I was going to mention that but DDay beat me to it.
As he said it's not the reddest, but it's the reddest that we have a SOLID chance of winning.

Charlie is a rising star in the CA Democratic Party and his near miss last cycle caught the attention of the DCCC.

Still, it's an uphill battle to be sure.

Good behavior should be rewarded:
