Donna Edwards Wins

Expected, but yet still wonderful:

Democrat Donna F. Edwards was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives by voters in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties yesterday, becoming the first black woman selected to serve Maryland in Congress.

Edwards, 49, a lawyer and nonprofit executive from Fort Washington, defeated Republican Peter James and Libertarian Thibeaux Lincecum in a contest marked by exceptionally low turnout at the polls. Edwards will replace eight-term Rep. Albert R. Wynn (D), whom she defeated in a primary election in February.

"We've been able to do it, and with your help," she told a crowd of about 100 supporters last night at a victory party in Lanham, including House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.). "I actually cannot wait to get into the United States Congress."

Welcome, Congresswoman Edwards.

Re: Donna Edwards Wins

This is the first good post you have done here. Good for Donna Edwards. It was really disgusting to see the Big Business PAC's pimp Al Wynn.

Yeah, but is she a superdelegate?

<snark>

Now tell Hoyer to quit being an ass on FISA!

<not snark>

Yay!

With enough like her we can change things for the better using solid proven policy and science not 'Hopiness...'

Re: Donna Edwards Wins

Do you have to turn everything into a backhanded slam against Obama?

Re: Donna Edwards Wins

This is why rotten Democrats like Wynn must be challenged in their primaries if the gates are ever to be crashed.

The idea of giving everyone with a "D" after the name a free pass invites corruption and betrayal of the Democratic Party's own platform.

Thank you, Donna Edwards, for your perseverance in challenging and defeating Al Wynn.

Re: Donna Edwards Wins

I give you mojo for amusing me, even though you share the name of a shortstop who is the most overrated defensive player in Major League Baseball.

Re: Donna Edwards Wins

He is overrated defensively, but has been an excellent offensive player during his career.

I was able to donate to Donna Edwards through Act Blue. Money well spent!
Buh bye Al Wynn!

Re: Donna Edwards Wins

But I am worried about the closeness of this vote against the Republican:

Edwards 15,400 to Mr R 3,500. She only won by better than four to one.  She better work he butt off if she expects to be re-elected in November lol!

Re: Donna Edwards Wins

This is great news!  Congrats to her, I can't wait to see all that she does.

Re: Donna Edwards Wins

Funny how little attention this has gotten.  After she won the primary we all assumed she would win the special election.

Unfortunately that's why turnout was so low.  There was no sense of urgency.

She'll do fine in November when D turnout will be enormous.

Anyway, I gave her money via Act Blue and am very glad she is officially in Congress now!
