Congrats Hillary

But I think for the day you will be down in delegates and popular vote.

Congrats All

Right now with 11% reporting in North Carolina Obama is up by THIRTY POINTS!

Re: Congrats Hillary

Ya' think?  As Axelrod said tonight, 'The math is the math.'  In spite of the 'tortured constructions' of the opposition.

No surprise there .

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

NC was of course a huge surprise. No one thought Obama had a chance.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

hmmmm I know it may be closer then expected but I don't know why the others don't just call it.

we all know he won't make up 12 points

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

Why the others don't call it?

Because Senator Clinton has an 8% lead but there are no (as in, no) returns yet from the Chicago suburbs thru South Bend, four counties with a total population that exceeds 1,000,000.

And they probably remember Missouri ...

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

Wow big surprise, Clinton was expected to win Indiana, this changes nothing...

just kidding.  This is a good win for her, obviously she isn't dropping out anytime soon, she'll keep campaigning as long as she keeps winning states.

Just making fun of the people who dismissed North Carolina earlier.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

It's about time. Between the exit polls and her 12 pt lead with 42% of the vote counted, I'm surprised it took them so long.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

I think because the cities are not in yet, or barely.

Missouri

She was up by 12 percent with 78 percent reporting in Missouri.

Just saying.

Re: um

8% now with 52% in.

Obama won't win this, but it could be 52-48 by the end of the night when northwest Indiana (Gary) comes in.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

Clinton wins the tie-breaker, Indiana.

No one knows where Obama's 25% lead in NC will end up when all the votes are counted.  If it's under 15% in a state that's so heavily Black, with Blacks unanimously supporting Barack Obama, Hillary has a moral victory.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

Because, what she really needs right now is "moral" victories!

Actually, just seems like the candidates have their demographic blocs locked in and we'll just keep doing this til June.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

There are only six primaries left.  It is a bit late in the game for "moral victories".

by Blue Neponset 2008-05-06 04:24PM | 0 recs
Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

I would think if she got under 10%, you could say she did okay.  15% is not very good.

Since demography seems to be a determinant this season, one could say the same about Indiana for Obama, where there are relatively few black voters (less than 10%, I think), although it appears that whites are more willing to vote for the black candidate than vice versa.

by TomP 2008-05-06 04:24PM | 0 recs
Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

... yes, well, there are not enough black voters in the battleground states to win in November.

I think that's Clinton's argument to the super delegates.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

That assumes this racial split continues into a general election.  I don't think it will, but predictions are inherently uncertain.  Time will tell.

The Democratic Party needs to be unified in the general election.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

i agree

clinton had the moral victory

by hillaryfighter 2008-05-06 04:25PM | 0 recs
It will tighten

The NC vote tally so far is heavy on the early voting, which went to BO strongly, and these returns are heavy on the research triangle area.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

Isn't a "moral victory," another name for a loss.

And speaking of sports analogies, I wonder if she would like to take back that "bet on the filly" comment?

by IowaMike 2008-05-06 04:58PM | 0 recs
Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

I'm more entertained with how Hillary will spin her massive loss in NC.. which she has openly stated is a "game changer"

by Winterblink 2008-05-06 05:01PM | 0 recs
Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana
  NC is only 35%  black
so if she was so strong with whites she should take a good chunk of that 65% remaining right?

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

For all the fights on blogs, it appears that nothing much was shown by the day.

The show moves on.  West Virginia and Kentucky next?

by TomP 2008-05-06 04:20PM | 0 recs
Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

West Virginia, followed by Kentucky and Oregon.  Then a couple of Western states.  It looks sort of split from here on in, certainly nothing that can dent his delegate lead as far as primaries.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

You said it.  That's the 'take-away' from tonight, the media is slow but they know a narrative when they see it.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

Something did change today the delegate hill that Hillary must climb just got even steeper.

by Lefty Coaster 2008-05-06 04:26PM | 0 recs
Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

Obama is going to get a huge chunk of delegates and popular votes out of tonight, even with the loss in Indiana.  Today was not inconsequential.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

This would, I believe, be the first time that Obama's famous spreadsheet failed to predict the correct winner.

by Steve M 2008-05-06 04:24PM | 0 recs
Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

Also, their estimates were off considerably in some states.  Overall, the spreadsheet underestimated the number of delegates Obama was to win.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

She'll stay in long enough to squeeze more funds out of her supporters just so she won't finish in debt and her campaign can pay her back that 5 mil she loaned herself.

I think this is a correct call...i think if

Senator Obama wins Indiana, he has to win overwhelmingly Newton and Lake county. And he has to add to his margin or maintain it in Marion county.

If he does not do that, i think CBS calling Indiana for Senator Clinton is a correct call.

So, again a split night.

These two candidates are just too good and people like both of them and are splitting their votes between them. One has yet to land a knock out and flatten his/her opponent. And i don't think it will happen. It will be a victory by points, even if we extend this race for 16 more months.

I am kind of tired of this race really. I think if both candidates get on the same ticket that would be a solution for everyone and it will be the best healing remedy for the party. Again, i am just speculating right now.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

Elkhart County, IN - Poblano predicted C +10...turned out to be O +18 with 96% of the vote in.

This is where Obama deployed his new strategy the 'family man'.
He went door to door canvassing there. Finishing off with a townhall picnic. It's worked wonders for him it seems.

Re: CBS News Projects Clinton Win in Indiana

In Indiana, Clinton wins over 65 by 72-28, but LOSES voters under 65, albeit narrowly,

Northwest Indiana hasn't reported yet.

by Lefty Coaster 2008-05-06 04:39PM | 0 recs
margin at 6% with 68% of vote in

This does not look like a good night for HRC.  Some are floating the possibility of an upset.  Although that probably won't happen it might get close enough to make it a tense night.

Obama will come out of tonight with more votes and more delegate.  The margin in Indiana may prompt some of the super to finally jump in.

should be interesting

MSNBC

Just changed Indiana from too early to call, to TOO CLOSE TO CALL!

by IowaMike 2008-05-06 05:19PM | 0 recs
Oh mama

margin down to 36,000 votes.  Still probably too much to overcome, but if it gets down to a 2 point win, this would not be a victory that would sway the supers.
