Wingers Should Give Up

The RNC is desperately trying to tie Obama to this scandal, but it's clear that the President-elect and his team had disgust for the Illinois governor's actions.

And when I cruised around the right-wing blogs yesterday, I noticed a comical refusal to acknowledge any part of the complaint that mentioned Obama's unwillingness to play ball with Blagojevich. Nothing about 'only appreciation,' nothing about how Blagojevich said 'f@$# him,' nada. Heads in the sand.

Anyway, back in reality, Obama is also joining Durbin and Reid in support of a special election to fill the seat, and calling on the Illinois governor to resign.

Good:

President-elect Barack Obama is calling for the Illinois governor to resign.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs says the president-elect agrees with other prominent politicians in Illinois and elsewhere that "under the current circumstances, it is difficult for the governor to effectively do his job and serve the people of Illinois."

Not just the RNC

Check out Todd's post directly below this one:

In the meantime, Obama is doing what he can to distance himself from Blago.

Like Obama will have to work hard to "distance himself" from the guy who called him a "motherf***er" on tape!

Re: Wingers Should Give Up

"President-elect Barack Obama's carefully parsed and vague statements regarding his own contact and that of his team with Governor Rod Blagojevich are unacceptable.  Considering the severity of the allegations against Governor Blagojevich, the President-elect should immediately disclose any and all communications his transition team has had with the governor's office along with any Service Employees International Union (SEIU) officials involved in the matter.  Obama's promise of transparency to the American people is now being tested."

What does SEIU have to do with this?

Re: Wingers Should Give Up

Blago had this delusion that the would be appointed to head the SEIU's "Change to Win" program...  The fact that he seemed to only discuss it with his imaginary friend seems to have been lost on everyone!

Re: Wingers Should Give Up

These people are now in the tiny minority of voters and general listening audience. Expect those who are going to be out on the limb trying to convince someone that a person who is recorded on tape, as saying something like

"Obama, that jerk - he wants me to be honest about this and not take a bribe - well, fuck him I'm not going to do that"

As I wrote on my blog, what we're seeing here is a real cleaning house - they're party-blind. It doesn't matter who you are. If you're a corrupt, rush-limbaugh bush republican you're on your way out.

Re: Wingers Should Give Up

The wingers dont really care.  They're looking for something to rage and feel they are really right about.  Which is a short summary of the Right wing blogosphere in toto.

They have realized they are not really shedding people after all; about 60 million voted for McCain despite misgivings and all indications he would lose, which is about the same as the 61 million for Bush 4 years ago.  Though they are vaguely aware that they might be running up a treadmill demographically, losing more voters to dying than gains in new ones for quite a few more years.  And the new ones are too concentrated in the South.

They do realize the Deep South is electing Republicans and knocking out Old Democrats.  Not that they understand why, but it's not like understanding ever has much to with their behavior.

They are now fishing for reasons to get people to vote against Democrats outside the South.  It's not a successful game, but what else are they going to do: talk about all their successes?

Re: Wingers Should Give Up

They should allow Pat Quinn to step in and appoint Alexi the state treasurer to the position.  He, Danny Davis and Tammy Duckworth are clear of any wrongdoing of the Governor. Lisa Madigan is going to be the next governor of Illinois anyway and Alexi is very popular as well the two might as well be on the same ticket in 2010.

Smartest plan I've yet heard

It escapes me why on Earth the Illinois legislature isn't just writing up articles of impeachment at this point.

I know that going the special election route the fairest and most noble thing to do at this point... but what's the point of using taxpayer dollars and running the risk of a lost Democratic senate seat when you have other levers of power at your disposal?

Re: Wingers Should Give Up

The lone republican woman in my office said that "Bambam is in trouble" because "he obviously knew about this, and that's why he smokes so much."

I just walked away, laughing, because there's nothing I can say that will make sense to her.

They will not give up

they are already in full-on Vince Foster mode during the election, with all the birth certificate stuff.  It's only gonna get crazier.

Right wingers protect their own

I was glad to see most of us in the liberal blogs bash the Illinois governor in no uncertain terms. The right wingers should be ashamed of themselves because while they do not hesitate to complain about the corrupt Democrats, they will be a lot more restrained, and actually whine about being picked on when it is their candidate who is under scrutiny.

Hell, even now, I see a lot of whining about the media protecting democrats despite the fact that people like Keith Olbermann and Maddow have been merciless towards the Governor. While I have seen some criticism of Ted Stevens by the Republican cohorts in the media, it was never half as serious as the criticism of the Illinois guy by Olbermann. And even when some of the right wingers criticized Ted Stevens, it was always qualified with a "but there are DEmocrats who do it too and get away with it".
