Bumped - Todd

A couple of things I've been meaning to mention today...

  • AmericaBlog is running a fundraiser for Betsy Markey, a great candidate running against the noxious Marilyn Musgrave in Colorado's fourth congressional district. The polling in the race looks great, but Markey needs our help, so please make a contribution -- even a few bucks -- today.
  • C-SPAN has a real neat Debate Hub feature on their website which is a great place to watch and follow the debate, particularly for those without a television. The Hub is also tracking the blogs -- including MyDD, which I'm told was quoted on-air after the Vice Presidential debate last week -- so check it out if you're interested.

Other than that, feel free to consider this an open thread... What's on your mind this afternoon?

Update [2008-10-7 16:15:42 by Todd Beeton]:More:

  • Current TV is going to be airing select tweets about the debate during their live broadcast. To put your debate-related Twitter messages into contention, include #current tag in the body of your message.
  • Oregon's excellent US Senate candidate Jeff Merkley raised a whopping $2 million last quarter, $850,000 of which was from online donations including what you guys generously contributed at our Road To 60 ActBlue page. Jeff says a big thanks:

The real context of of the anti-Obama remark

It makes much more sense now. Nothing to worry about.

Since it's an open thread...

I'll share a photo.  This is a light drawing I did back in March:

Re: Canvassing today

I am going to vote on Friday.   I work in a different county than I live, and the polling place is the opposite direction.   I am off on Friday so I am going to go vote then.

A lot of people have been voting early in Georgia and a higher number of minorities are voting than White voters.  The GOTV campaign here in Georgia is really going to focus on early voting.

Re: Canvassing today

"CAN WE VOTE NOW?"

I hear that.  I live in Oregon and we get our ballots in about a week...can't wait.  I'm going to vote the very first night and get it in the mail the next day.

This smear campaign by McCain and Palin is just WRONG.  When you have people yelling "terrorist" anf "kill him" when referring to Obama at your events, they should be disgusted and condem it right away.

Where is the outrage from moderate, thinking conservatives.  This is terrible and I'm embarrased that we still have such ignorant people in this nation.

Okay, thanks for allowing me to vent a bit.  I feel fortunate to have a space like this.

10 days until ballots drop in Oregon!!!

I can't believe that we're just ten days away from ballots dropping in Oregon. The polls are incredibly close between Merkley and Smith, I'm just hoping that the momentum keeps going Jeff's way and we pick this seat up!

Re: Open Thread

Oh Merkley...you are so awkward when campaigning.  It's obvious you are not that great at "the game"  It makes me like you even more.  We need a policy wonk like you in the US Senate.  Ride those Obama coattails.  Good luck!

Re: Open Thread

You're right, Merkley is a policy wonk. And, Merkley is a workhorse and definitely is not a showhorse. As House Speaker, he led the greenest, most labor friendly, most effective and progressive session we've seen in decades.

Thanks for the well wishes btw. Ballots drop in just ten days here in Oregon and the race is really tight!

Kenya Enters the Space Race

Nairobi - Not so fast, NASA, you wait your turn ESA.  President Mwai Kibaki has thrown the astronaut's gauntlet down today by announcing the formation of the country's new space program with a directive to "rapidly eject a live human being from Earth's gravity well, with the intent of hitting (landing) him on the plantetoid of Pluto."

President Kibaki's senior science advisor Dr. Kipchogi Ngugi gave a brief outline of the space shot:

"We have obtained one of the best and brightest Harvard has to offer, this man has a PhD, really."  "It has come full circle in the story of mankind; from the birthplace of mankind in the African continent, we are going to send man's progeny to the furthest known point within the solar system."

Dr. Ngugi continues:  "Although we can assure a successful launch, the recent worldwide economic crisis has mandated certain cutbacks within the program."  He would not elaborate.

Despite the high profile rollout of the surprise space mission, the astronaut who would have to endure the 6 billion kilometer, 8 year trip alone, trapped in a airtight container approximately twice the size of a coffin, has not been named.  "For security purposes" Kipbaki responded, "However, we intend to make the world aware of "Dr. C"'s contribution to science.

Yes, Jerome Corsi PhD (Piled higher and Deeper) did go to Harvard.
