Al Franken has Coleman on the ropes

Coleman, is disarming-- unilaterally:

"At times like this, politics should not add to negativity -- it should lift people up with hope and a confident vision for the future," Coleman said in prepared remarks. "And second, I decided that I was not all that interested in returning to Washington for six years based on the judgment of voters that I was not as bad as the other two guys."

The other two guys are Democratic comedian Al Franken and Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley. Three recent polls show Franken taking his first lead after trailing, sometimes badly. The numbers ranged from a 43 - 34 - 18 split in a Minneapolis Star Tribune poll released last week to 41 - 37 - 14 in a Minnesota Public Radio/Humphrey Institute sounding released Wednesday.

Amazing. "He will pull his negative advertising and urge his supporters to do the same." Whatever.

Now, Franken's numbers are not all that great either, at 42, but it looks like its only going to take a plurality to win.

I just had a thought-- of waiting up for the Alaska returns to see if we hit 60.

Last I checked, Norm had more COH than Franken. Of course, we may be stuffing Franken's pockets as we speak.

I think this is actually based on Minnesotans' reaction to some really terrible ads Norm has been running. It (especially the angry Al spot) bit him in the butt.

Not a bad idea

A few weeks ago, I felt I would have to stay up to wait for Obama to hit 270.

Then I felt I would stay up to see if he could win NC, MO, and IN (which may all be close).

Now I think I'll stay up to see if we hit 60.

VA, NM, CO, and NH are about as close to being in the bag as we're gonna get. AK, OR, and NC look pretty solid, and MN has finally started to break our way. We just need one more out of the group of GA, KY, and MS, the first two of which are rapidly coming our way, the last one which has always been competitive. Who knows, maybe we ought to keep an eye on TX too.

RN C

The new rumor coming out is that the RNC is dumping support of the McCain campaign and redoubling its efforts to save Senate seats. They know they are going to lose 6+ and now they want to be sure that they do not lose 10.

If this is true I have a feeling that this is one of those Senate races that the RNC will be dumping more money into very fast.

It might be a good time to donate more to Franken.

The RNC had already written off the Senate to save McCain. This is a little late to start dumping money into the Senate races.

Man, I can't believe the Democrats lost to these people for so long; they've been playing catchup all season.

my thought was, VA and FL are states where polls close early. When they are not even close and get called early, we might know the winner by 9pm ET. Voters in AK will still be voting for quite some time then, and it should be depressing for Republican voters...
