Nevada's Democratic Congresswoman Endorses Clinton

First Read has the story:

In what may be an attempt to offset today's expected Obama endorsement by the Nevada Culinary Workers Union, the Clinton campaign is touting a "major" Nevada endorsement -- that of Rep. Shelley Berkley.

Berkley, who represents congressional district with the state's largest city in it, Las Vegas, cited the New York senator's experience and record of "change" as reasons for her support -- a message on key with what the campaign has been projecting for months.

Because so few voters are expected to participate in next Saturday's caucuses -- as few as 40,000 by some estimations -- any momentum shift can be important. What's more, regardless of whether the endorsement of Berkley, the only Democrat to represent Nevada in the House, will "offset" the culinary workers' endorsement of Barack Obama, it will at the least allow reporters in the state to write of dueling endorsements, if not in the headline then certainly in the lede. This isn't earth-shattering stuff for Clinton, but it does come as good news as she seeks to sit on her seemingly comfortable lead in Nevada through the caucuses on the 19th.

Re: Nevada's Democratic Congresswoman Endorses Cli

Berkeley used to have a strong network of grassroots supporters, but its badly atrophied. Its been 6 years since she had a competitive election and her original support for the war diminished support for her among progressive activists.

Basically, this is another elected official endorsing the Clinton machine but bringing very little grassroots organization to help. I don't see how there is anyone not already supporting Clinton who is swayed by this.

this is solely for the media narrative

Just like 90 percent of all politicians' endorsements. This is meant to change the reporting about who has momentum in Nevada, nothing more.

Who will be swayed by this?

"the New York senator's experience and record of "change" as reasons for her support"

What record of change does that refer to. She has become a corportist on domestic policy, at least with respect of universal health care, and a Neocon as far as foreign policy is concerned. This is Cheney-Bush Lite.

Remember Yucca Mountain.

Clinton is a hero in NV over this issue. And despite the endorsement how may culinary workers are either hispanic or middle aged women. The way in which the Obamaphile are clinging to this endorsement tells me they are very nervous. I'd say she has a better than fifty/fifty chance of winning NV.

Where is Obama on Yucca Mtn?

Which debate was it when he said he "hoped" that a solution to nuclear waste would come in the future from tech that hasn't been invented yet?

If that isn't not ready for primetime hopemongering what is?

Re: Remember Yucca Mountain.

Yucca Mountain is a perfect example of why everybody wants to be an early primary state.

I actually thought Obama's answer on Yucca Mountain at the Las Vegas debate was one of the worst things I've ever heard from him.  I don't know what Nevada may think, though.

Hopefully it will feature in an ad.

It's a classic demo of doing and talking.

I do like when Obama gets an endorsement, everyone rushes to say how GREAT this is and how its going to help SO MUCH...but when someone else does, "its no big deal" ;)
