Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

This was just announced in a conference call, I'm not sure if it's on the wire yet. General Clark endorses Hillary Clinton.

Pretty big endorsement. I've long stated that a Clinton/Clark ticket would be the strongest were Clinton to become the nominee. I went ahead and asked him if he'd consider the position, and he of course deferred;)

I'm on my way right now to Mark Warner's Pig Roast, then heading out to Iowa tomorrow morning for Tom Harkin's Steak Fry (both clients)... great fare for a vegetarian. I'm hoping to catch a Obama and Biden rally prior to the Steak Fry, and then am going to attend Clinton's Healthcare speech on Monday in Des Moines. I'll hopefully find out about the Sunday/Monday Richardson or Edwards events as well.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

You know this might actually work .i.e. Wes Clark for Vice President , never really thought of it that way , why not unite my former choice with the current one , that would really be 2 for 1. Obama's chances have become slimer as a choice for me after this week.

Jim webb has moved up in my book and maybe Clark.

Re: well, I remember

Wrong.  Gore will NOT endorse Hillary.  They haven't even met this year and they had a falling out when Gore ran in 2000.  Apparently, he took credit for Clinton administration high points while criticizing Bill's personal conduct.  That leaves three other possibilities based on Gore's acquaintance with the others: Dodd, Edwards or Obama.

I'm putting my money on Obama for the Gore endorsement.  Bet on it.

A-Clark opposes/criticizes the Illegal war of Iraq.

B-Hillary Votes for and to fund the ILLEGAL war of Iraq.

C-Clark endorses Hillary clinton.

Something just doesnt seem right about such logic. But hey, who cares that Hillary was a war cheerleader; such thing doesnt seem to matter to democratic voters.

If hillary's the candidate I'll vote for Nader.

SCOTUS

There are three (or is it four, according the Cheney) branches of government. Voting for a Democrat is the patriotic thing to do. It transcends party lines.

Even though any person involved in AUMF has no moral authority to lead us out of the war, I'll support whoever the Democratic nominee is. They were not the political party that got us into this mess.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

The war vote was in 2002.  This is 2007--alot can change in 5 years.  Only Bush remains resolute. Bush would drive us over a cliff. With Hillary we get a President who doesn't mind stopping and asking for directions.  That will be a big improvement.

Re: well, I remember

I have heard for a long while that there was a problem between Clinton and Gore because when Gore was running in 2000 he would not allow Clinton to campaign for him.  I think it would be a great gesture for Gore to endorse Hillary.  I could see Gore in a Hillary Clinton administration as Head of the EPA. This will be the most important position in her administration and will signal that we are serious about Global Warming.

I watched Carl Bernstein on Bill Maher.  He said nobody expected Hillary to run such a good campaign and he now believes she can and will be President.  With Wes Clark on the ticket its a given.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

Clark's endorsement DOES NOTHING.

Unless his supporters get their PRINCIPLES from Wes Clark, it will not change anything.

Unless he tells his supporters what to do, it will not change anything.

But if his most active supporters, the ones online who haven't forgotten about him like many of those out there who don't follow this stuff that much, those ones like us online already know what they think about Hillary Clinton, and most of them aren't going to change their mind just because Clark endorsed the wife of his former boss.

In the end, high-profile endorsements won't matter for Hillary Clinton.  They don't change anything as far as the race is concerned.

After Al Gore, Bill Bradley, and Jimmy Carter endorse someone other than Hillary Clinton, then we can talk because they will matter.

If they endorsed Hillary Clinton, they would just safeguard the coronation.

Oh yeah, because people will spend it as such, acting like it's "NEWS," even though it's a given.

I guess he and Keith Olbermann can openly kiss Hillary Clinton's behind now with "Clinton Supporter" under their names the next time Clark is a guest on Countdown.

How many times do I have to talk about HILLARY CLINTON'S MEDIA SURROGATES before people accept the fact that THE PRESS has been pushing her from day one.

She doesn't even need to buy ads.  The media establishment is doing all they can to get her endorsed because most of them support her.

Thanks Clark for just letting us all know, so that we can say it when you are on MSNBC unlike Keith Olbermann, Bill Press, Peter Fein, and even those idiots Paul Begala and James Carville who try and ACT LIKE they are unbiased when they are on CNN.

So, Clark and Hilary Rosen have made it clear that they are supporting Hillary Clinton.

Yet, they are always on MSNBC running their mouths.  Go figure.

If you don't think that Chris Matthews totes Clinton's "PRIMARY" water, then you must be the dumbest person on earth.

She has been unopposed by the media since she entered the race, unlike John Edwards, who they have been more than happy to MANUFACTURE FAKE SCANDALS AGAINST, just like they did to Gore in 2000.

Good press leads to good poll numbers.

Just ask Kerry what it did for him after Iowa.

He wouldn't have swept through the other states after Iowa if the media had not constantly shown images of him winning while adding commentary "HE HAS THIS THING WRAPPED UP," starting the night of his Iowa victory.

In a televison-driven society, people get their marching orders from the television set.

I read everything I can find about every candidate.  I like Hillary because I feel she can bring back our economy and focus in on the problems of Americans for a change.  I think that Wesley Clark, would be the best man for the job of VP because he is called the soldier's general and his take on social issues is that of a liberal.

We have had 6-1/2 years of Bush's negativity and fear tactics.  There is a new day coming and I am excited that there is a light at the end of this long dark tunnel.  If you don't want to join us in fixing our great nation then get out of the way.

What has she done while in the senate that tells you she's qualified to be commander in chief? Give 10 things she's done that merits her the presidency of the United States.  Fuck it, just give me 5. Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

I was involved in the Clark draft and presidential campaign in 2003 - 2004. The Clark and Dean campaigns were the pioneers of presidential campaigns in the netroots with Clark having the second largest group of supporters behind Dean.

The Clark endorsement is a major one for Clinton and will potentially bring in many thousands of additional very active supporters to the Clinton campaign. With Mark Warner now running for the Senate I think Clark has a very good chance of being on the short list for Clinton's VP nominee.

A very good day for Clinton and Clark.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

I doubt it.  It won't bring Clinton thousands of anything.

Many of Wes Clark's supporters, as many of us tried to tell them in 2004, were delusional liberals who thought that Clark that Wes Clark was a dream come true -- a progressive Military General.

They love Wes Clark, but they are still, many of them, IDEOLOGICALLY OPPOSED to Hillary Clinton.

They were fooling themselves into believing that Wes Clark actually believes many of the same things they do.  They already know that Hillary Clinton doesn't.

I think many of Clark's supporters will go into hiding for a while and try to figure out what to do next.  I don't think they are going to just follow Clark to Hillary Clinton.

Clark's Statement

September 15, 2007

"Senator Hillary Clinton has earned the support of millions of Americans in her campaign for president -- and today I am pleased to count myself among them. The world has reached a critical point, and we need a leader in the White House with the courage, intelligence and humility to navigate through many troubling challenges to our security at home and abroad. I believe Senator Clinton is that leader, and I whole-heartedly endorse her for President of the United States. Senator Clinton and I share a worldview in which diplomacy is the best first-strike tool in our arsenal; in today's complicated global system, the United States should be making more friends than enemies."

Never before have so many Americans had our well-being so closely tied to world events. Our economic and national security has become more complicated than ever before, and we deserve a leader who draws on wisdom, compassion, intelligence and moral courage -- in short, we need Hillary Clinton. She is tough but fair, a rock-solid leader equal to the many weighty challenges ahead of us."

Of course they do.

Joe Wilson voted for Dubya in 2000, Dole in 1996, and Bush Sr in 1992 and 1988.

Clark was a Republican who became a Democrat in 2003, just a little while after he was on video praising the Bush policy in Iraq.

Why wouldn't people expect them to endorse Hillary Clinton?  They are disaffected beltway Republicans.  Of course they are going to support the status quo.

"I've long stated that a Clinton/Clark ticket would be the strongest were Clinton to become the nominee. I went ahead and asked him if he'd consider the position, and he of course deferred;)"

Personally, I disagree that it would be the strongest ticket, for a couple of reasons.

First, Wesley Clark is an older guy, he isn't getting any younger.  After Clinton would be done being president, would he run or would he retire and we have another cluster to the white house like this?  I think we need someone younger who could carry on leadership of the Democratic party after eight years.  That's my opinion at least.

The second reason, is who would we put in as the Secretary of Defense?  Personally, I don't like Robert Gates sitting there, just because I don't feel he has been completely upfront with us and with his disagreements to the White House.

with Clark...

I support Wes and his ideals but I do not support his decision to endorse anyone right now.

I do believe that hillary would be a far superior president to any of the repubs but I also believe that others would be better then her.

I am coming out right now.

I have been feeling out the others and I personally like all of the Democratic candidates for one or more reasons. I also dislike many for one or more reasons. But...

I have lately been leaning towards Dodd and Edwards. Yes Edwards. No matter what you think about his personal "style" he gets it when it comes to unions and the "little guy".

So, there it is.

I hope the rest of you are not to upset about Wes Clark's decision. It is his decision but not mine.

I am not going away from here but I will start putting a little more effort in checking out the others and filling out my decision. I may just wait until the General Election but most likely I won't. I am to much of a pain in the ass for that.   :)

Re: you are off base

I think Clark has a good shot at VP since Warner is running for the Senate. He would make an excellent Sec. of State if not on the ticket. I think Clinton will have one of the most impressive Cabinets that has been seen in our lifetimes.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

Even though I respect Wes Clark as a very brilliant Military General and NATO Commandar, I doubt if this is any big plus for Hillary or will change the dynamics of the race as many are suggesting.

This is a guy that fadded quickly in the '04 cycle. I had hight expectation for him before he jumped into the race in '04 but when I listened to his stump, I knew he was not going to last and I was correct.

A Strong Pull on the Ticket

It doesn't surprise me at all. In 2004 Bill Clinton said there were two superstars in the Dem. camp, Hillary and Gen. Clark. General Clark addresses the national security image problem in a big way. He now has significant experience on the national political stage. He would add some strength in the Southern states. And I think there is a history of strong loyalty as he was partners with Clinton the Kosovo conflict. I think Gen. Clark would be an excellent choice on a Dem ticket.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

Thanks, Dem007, your assessment is helpful and informative. I could be very happy with a Clinton/Clark ticket. I think it would be hard to beat.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

So, I'm guessing that you could be very happy with a lost House and Senate, and a stolen election in 2008 as well, because that's what you WILL GET with Clinton.

Too bad "YOU PEOPLE" can't see that.

One of the reasons that Clinton will choose Clark if HER CORONATION IS SUCCESSFUL, as I said back in 2005, is because of height.

She's not going to pick any candidate to run with her that towers over her...such is the detailed-oriented, vanity, of her privilege-based campaign.

OE, are you intent on making your candidate Edwards look like crap by proxy?   This is BY FAR the weakest posting this site has to offer.  You ACTUALLY CLAIM with assuredness that we will lose BOTH the House and the Senate in 2008 because of Clinton's nomination?    Bizarre.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

It's mighty funny when people report these things like IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE NEWS OR SOMETHING.

I said back last year that Vilsack and Clark would endorse Hillary Clinton.

I said that DLCers like Mark Warner and Evan Bayh would probably not run so that they could avoid splitting the DLC vote.

And now people don't believe it when I say that Obama was suckered into the race to prevent Edwards from beating Hillary Clinton, which he would have had little problem doing if it was only HIM VERSUS CLINTON FROM THE BEGINNING.

The split of the "PLEASE GOD, SOMEONE ELSE BUT CLINTON" Democrats helps to make Clinton look unstoppable, and thus to continuously grow her lead as people feel like they MAY AS WELL go ahead and support her.

The dynamics would have been totally different if Obama wasn't so gullible.

Don't you mean, "obviously Clark was going to endorse Clinton from the beginning"?

I don't have any leaders.

WE, THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES, are the leaders.

I don't owe Hillary Clinton anything, especially not my support, and I do not support the coronation of a corporate whore.

Maybe Bill Maher should ask them about animal farming and global warming.

But, I understand that only the TOUGH QUESTIONS go to John Edwards.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

Stop the presses!  Whoop de doo, Clark endorses Clinton.  Something for all you Hillaryites to feel good about, especially after the previous "Hsu-nami" of fundraising scandal headlines.

I think Obama's got equal or better footing with the more significant endorsement from Rep. Patrick Murphy, the only current Congressman to serve in Iraq.  Not to mention support from a long list of former Clinton allies (Greg Craig, Anthony Lake, Susan Rice, Sarah Sewell, Philip Gordon, etc.).  Why?  Just because they loved Bill doesn't mean they feel the same about Hillary.  Those who remain in her inner circle do so mostly out of fear than admiration.

Yet another fleeting sound bite that everyone will forget about next week.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

There has been no "Hsu-nami" and anyone who thinks that the mere MENTION of a story constitutes A LOT of negative coverage, must have had never received much punishment as a child.

The media has been pushing Clinton for 9 months, and they haven't piled any negative coverage on her, especially not like they have "GORED" Edwards with fake scandals like they did to Gore in 2000.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

Patrick Murphy is a great admirer of Wesley Clark. If Clark had run this time, Murphy would most likely have endorsed him. There is no reason for you to disrespect General Clark. Patrick Murphy wouldn't appreciate it.

Where specifically in my post did I "disrespect" Wesley Clark?  Just because I didn't think his endorsement of Clinton isn't a big deal?

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

Clark will change this race even more-Clinton's polling has been going up anyway-this will cement-If he were the VP it would certainly make it more difficult for the Republicans to try and cast Clinton as a traitor/defeatist  for trying to end the war.  Obama has a pretty negative anti-war story today in the Wash Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con tent/article/2007/09/14/AR2007091402254. html    For those who still think he's got the goods on the war- Just a politician afterall-

Wes Clark's endorsement doesn't change anything.

Anyone endorsing Hillary Clinton doesn't change anything.

It's going to be a great day in January 2009 when John Edwards is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States and we can begin cleaning up Washington, starting with the establishment-hack Democrats.

Re: Wesley Clark endorses Hillary Clinton

During the 1990s, the Clintons took the Democratic Party down a road that led to the loss of Congress and a major change in political philosphy.

Somebody needs to lead the Democratic Party in a different direction, it's not going to be Hillary Clinton.
