Florida is looking to make its jan 29 a beauty contest , they are looking for a compromise so they can still seat their delegates , so it seems florida would still be important afterall.
A decision should be made before wednesday next week.
So they're going to have two primaries, but only the later one gives delegates?
That doesn't make too much sense to me, but ok...
yeah its a little complicated but its something similar to what you proposed , here is a link to what is going on .
Thanks for the link!
Sounds like a mess, but I do think it'd be bad for the party if Florida doesn't get any votes - so I hope they work something out.
is running for president. And my birthday isn't even until next week. This is just too fun.
People are all over the place, and I know it's early but it's not THAT early
Basically every race annoys me:
1) NH- Ok Shaheen is in, we've got this right...04/06 blue state...she's up 20 points...Democrats are energized because of how Bushy Sununu has been and the phone jamming scam...now people are bitching because right after 9/11 when basically the whole Democratic party tilted right, she followed suit...so why don't we primary John Kerry, he was just as bad as her in 20002 if not worse
2) VA- Ok Warner is in, but now people are saying remember how Webb was 30pts behind...but that was a challenger in a blue wave year, there is no way this is going to be a "red wave" year, even if it's Hillary vs. Rudy and she screws up...the man knows how to campaign and we're can't count this one yet?
3) CO- what's with this seat...for the longest time Udall has been this uncontested, far and away front-runner...name recognition...cash...yet all is quiet, I don't hear polling numbers, colorado political experts...
4) MN- this race pisses me off the most, Minnesota should hate Norm Coleman after his 6 year stint he won on a technicality and has been a Bushy since 2002 and Amy K won by 20 points last year, this should be a 20+ pt race like NH...what's wrong, MN can't field a good candidate...there is so little energy in this race and that it's "good news" that the Democrat is down 5...when this nation is in ultimate anti-GOP mode...not good news
5 OR- wtf is up with Oregon, it's a solid blue state, Smith is a Republican who is not God in Oregon politics, why is everyone acting like it's a 2nd tier race...Mike DeWine anyone? Moderate GOP in a Red State...got pounded by Sherrod Brown for no real reason except DeWine was a bush-GOPer
6 ME- Tim Allen comes to the rescue, and no one is releasing one little poll, he must be down by a significant amount, there is decent buzz but I am not hearing any news that moderates are turning on Collins in a significant number that would eventually lead to her losing the seat
7 Kentucky- its a race, then its a joke, ofcourse its kentucky they're not going to throw out a majority leader in a red state...then its a race again...no solid numbers
8 Alaska- This state is ultra-red and even Knowles when he was popular and Mirkulski (sp?) was a joke, he lost...why in gods name would anyone have a chance against Stevens or his replacement? This isn't like Montana where they already elect Democrats...Alaska is Wyoming-like Red...Burns was thoroughly corrupt and it was obvious, and he was a shitty campaigner...and he still almost won! Why do people even think we have a chance hear? (i'd really like to be optomistic)
9 LA- Why is this race such a big ?...we already know it's almost certainly going to be Kennedy as the challenger...and we have post Katrina data...its called 2006...use that, and do some polling, and tell if its unstable as everyone says it is
10 SD- Johnson looks untouchable, this should be considered as safe as Mark Pryor
11 NC- North Carolina is the bluest of red southern states (VA is becoming mid-atlantic) why isn't there more energy and commitments here...and what has Liddy Dole ever done to win over moderates or conservatives...? Why isn't this a solid second tier race?
12 NE- Why hasn't Kerrey announced yet, and if the two ex governors would be dead even, wouldn't the national election gives SOME coat tails to Kerrey's opponent? If it really is a "battle of the titans" we lose because the state will go strong GOP unless it's not Obama/Edwards/Hillary
13 NM- for the love of god, this guys approval has dropped like a rock, someone strong from NM (they have to have a deep bench) should give me a firm challenge, be very aggressive, and jees the guy will probably retire out of fear of being the next Conrad Burns
13 races, 13 frustrations...yes I remember 2005 and it was a lot more clear by this point
We all knew Santorum was going to lose, Burns was looking really doubtful, we knew we had a race if Webb won, Dewines numbers were awful, Talent was deadlocked by then with McCaskill...it was a coinflip until election night...and Chaffee was walking the plank
Except for VA, I had every race with relative certainty that they'd be really close by now, and had a firm idea why...now I have 13 races and no idea WTF is going on...and for all the bluestatethis and bluestatethat...I have no idea where all these races stand and it annoys me because I want to contribute early
Can anyone help a brother out?
For your concerns about Minnesota... Amy Klobuchar took awhile to take the lead in polling, but she did. She was also running for an open seat. We're seeing the polling slowly turn against Coleman, but he's an incumbent and significantly stronger than Kennedy was.
My opinion on Nebraska... I don't think Kerrey and Johanns would come off as even. I don't know how they'd start out, but we do know that Jon Bruning is running and former mayor of Omaha is going to announce soon. The primary could bloody up Johanns to give Kerrey the edge. A lot will depend on fundraising and how the states recieve them again.
Oregon - I would say the case is similar to Minnesota except the fact that Merkley doesn't have much name recognition. Polls should shift over time, but Smith is strong politically. With the Democratic machine working behind Merkley, I wouldn't worry too much about this as his fundraising flows.
Louisiana, I think the political atmosphere has offset the hurricane (political) damage. Giving Landrieu the financial edge I expect her to keep her seat.
I agree about Johnson in SD.
North Carolina - Martin Grier (State Representative... Veteran - He has a decent repetoire. He isn't nobody at least) is going to announce sometime.
In MN
According to wikipedia (i know, not completely accurate) there are some two dozen polls all the way back to 2005 and guess what...she has the lead in EVERY SINGLE ONE
Minnesota is funny...I mean the D challenger lost in 2006 in the gubernatorial race...too bland...part of me thinks Ciresi might be the same way...so we need Franken, but Franken will set off a wave of negative attacks I don't know if his CAMPAIGN can withstand them...the GOP has been eerily quiet about this race I think they are crossing their fingers for Franken to win then they will come out guns blazing
In Nebraska...polls have Johanns with the primary edge...I guess time will tell but still with such a huge progressive network you'd think on SOME site they'd have a real hard hitting analysis on Kerrey's matchup potential besides the "he'll prolly win unless its a battle of the titans"
OR- I don't see why Smith is strong political in Oregon, and it bothers me that top tier candidates turned down the race
NC- I wonder if some actual excitement will come out of that race once he announces...it's so dead
LA- I don't know...that ultra-conservative Vitter can get 51% in a jungle primary...BTW what the hell is gonna happen to that seat once Gov. Jindal accepts his resignation...2008 election? We got a candidate or is Landrieu the only Democrat worth anything in the state...I'm so disappointed they couldn't find one Dem for the gubernatorial race
Did you miss Kos' appearance on Colbert? You are always gonna have nuts on any open site. Just like you have nuts in real life.
Not ever awarding of the Bronze Star w/ a V gets reported on - only the most interesting ones.
Petraeus got it because he was fired upon in Najaf...perhaps there wasn't anything flashy enough to go into the papers, but surely it was still valorous...
Either way, the link someone provided on your diary clearly shows that he did, in fact, receive the V - so you don't really have an argument here, I don't think...
Lovely to see that you're actively trying to get this site to look bad, even though you presumably must know the diary you're referring to is an obvious outlier on this site, and that literally NO ONE else has agreed with its poster.
It's a stupid claim and it's a stupid diary - but every site will have its share of stupid diaries, and we should just move on from them, rather than bringing attention to them.
I trollrated you because calling someone an "asshat" is not appropriate - even if their diary is super-silly.
Pointing a dumb diary out to the Right Wing Media isn't "sweeping it under the rug," it's airing it out as much as it can be. I agreed with you that the diary should be deleted, because I was concerned that someone from the RWM would find it - but then you make their job that much easier by pointing it out for them. We should just ignore the diarist's drivel about Petraeus, and move on to more substantive things, like the flaws in the plan Petraeus is advocating.
I agree with you. I know that the Right Wingers hang around this site. The negative comments were all right wingers last night. You can always tell who they are because they always say what they are against and never what they are for.
