Today, Ellen Tauscher said:
But I have a district that's not a majority Democratic district, and I think that if you look at the last election results, which were just a few months ago, where I got 68 percent of the vote - that's 110,000 votes - I think that I have a lot of support in my district, and those are the people that I work for, those are the people with whom I think I have a lot of common ground and a lot of support.
Well for your Friday Night Video, let's look at the ad from the person who was the 2004 GOP nominee and ran again against her in 2006.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFSeO-vy7 QU
She is actually bragging that she did well against this?
God damn, that fuckin cracked me up. I called my kid into the room before I watched it again; it was that good.
If you read the comments on youtube, one person claims that this was a viral VHS twenty+ years ago. It wouldn't surprise me, it is timeless.
That was a good West Wing clip, but this one is about the cruelest thing you can do:
I think it's poking fun at both sterile political ads and the ugly if hilarious realities that they understandably and often thankfully try to mask.
Imagine tranposing the concept behind this video to a political ad intended to sell us a wholesome, religious, regular Joe family guy image of Bush:
"Hi, I'm George Bush and I can't stand fucking poor people. Blacks, spics and Jewboys too--except when you need a good lawyer or some quick cash--them Hebrews are good at that sort of shit. Now don't get me started about them Ayrabs...".
</snark> The above is strictly satire.
My current favorite:
Road of Good Intentions

Get your tissues ready.

Always good for a smile.
My favorite YouTube clip is called Zidane the Scientist, a clip of highlights set to Coldplay. Zinedine Zidane is probably the greatest modern soccer player.
I'd love to see a political campaign include that ad, just to piss everyone off. Priceless!
Great clip!
But why are all you people posting your own clips? Who cares about you? Only MY clips matter. I'M the important person here. In fact, I'M the most important person in the entire world, and only what I say matters. Time Magazine said so.
Well, since it's an open thread ...
What the fuck is wrong with the AP? Did they not hear Valerie Plame at all today? It's like all the reporter did was watch Faux News' coverage of it (which, come to think of it, she probably did).
Meanwhile, did you see this one? Our friends in South Carolina are attempting to pass legislation requiring women seeking abortions to view an ultrasound of the fetus, then wait an hour to "think," before undergoing the procedure.
But what really gets me is that a Democrat says it'll pass because, according to the article, "even lawmakers who don't like the bill will be afraid to vote against it."
Afraid?! Shit. They should be afraid of voting for the damn thing.

Now I know why Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore and Kerry lost. They clearly DID NOT speak to this fucking asshole. Whereas Reagan and Bush II did, because they too were fucking assholes. So maybe that's the key to winning the fucking asshole vote in the future--nominating our own fucking assholes.
Suggestions? The Donald? Andrew Dice Clay? NY Rangers fans?
As a very liberal New Yorker and Ranger fan, I must take exception to your inflammatory and libelous assertion. If you think about it, the NY Rangers are really the Democrats of the NHL, they both have a winning deficiency in their respective domains. The last time they won the Cup, it was before the GOP took over Congress. The time before that, FDR was in office. Strange coincidences...makes you think.
Or not.
Oh, and as a Yankee fan, let me also add George Steinbrenner to your list of possible asshole nominees.
I was, of course, being snarky (although from the looks of some Rangers fans I've seen when passing through Penn Station in years past after a long day at work, perhaps only partly snarky--but I suspect that you're not one of those perpetually inebriated louts, who I'm guess mostly voted for Bush anyway).
Like every sports team the Rangers have a wide range of fans (including but not limited to the above sort). And, of course, the Rangers continue to be NYC's only hockey team, the others being in B&T land.
And as a former Mets fan (I sort of stopped following them and sports in general over the past decade), I can vouch for the louttish nature of some of their fans (although, having been to Yankees games it's clear that the same can be said of their fans, especially the bleacher bums).
I guess life really is like sports. You see all types in both. And, of course, I was referring to the "other" type in my comment. ;-)
Ran across this little tidbit in an article about the Plame hearing and found it extremely interesting:
...Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, who pronounced the 42-year-old Plame more of a draw than the sorry lineup of baseball stars called before Congress two years ago to testify about steroid use. Westmoreland, one of only three GOP members of Congress who showed up at the hearing
Hm, I wonder what we can take away from this?
He's the one who couldn't tell Colbert more than 2 of the 10 Commandments, isn't he? (thus accidentally supporting his own argument that they should be posted in every courthouse).
She's actually 43, turning 44 in a month:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valerie_Pla me
And damn if she doesn't like great for any age. Or have the brains to slam down any Repub who dares challenge her word or credibility. As she did on Friday.
And yes, shame on Repubs for cutting and running on this hearing. I guess they knew what they'd be up against, and that Toensing would just make things worse. I consider it admission of guilt by default.
Just like Libby's not testifying in his own trial.
I nominate her for DCI when Obama takes office in '09. And Richard Clarke as NSA (the advisor, not the agency, although he'd do great there too). And her husband as high-profile ambassador (e.g. UN, England, France).
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Still much work to be done till '09.

I've always been a big fan of Mr. Show, but this sketch in particular always got to me...
I am also quite fond of Dr. Katz...
This is hilarious! I work with labor unions (I provide their software) and this is dead-on brilliant ... thanks for making my otherwise dreary Saturday morning more cheerful (we've been hit with about 18 inches of snow in upstate NY!)
Matt: It was hilarious, but I wish you had mentioned something about the language. I was sitting with my granddaughter when I clicked "play" and was kind of embarrassed. There's a "no swearing" rule in their house.
Love the Lonnie Donegan! Just recently discovered this Chicago-area jazz banjo player, Mercedes Landazuri, while searching for "Waters of March."
