Why Chris Dodd Has No Traction

Since Comedy Central is owned by Viacom, and Viacom is psychotically evil about copyright and their embeds don't work on MyDD, I can only link to this clip of Chris Dodd on the Daily Show. Don't bother watching, it's not that interesting. The opening question is Jon Stewart asking Dodd about the Fox News debate in Nevada, and Dodd saying that he thinks that Democrats ought to debate.
Jon Stewart: There's a recent hullabaloo about Democratic Presidential candidates withdrawing from a Democratic Presidential debate in Nevada because Fox was sponsoring it. Let me ask you. If you were a candidate for President laughter, what would you do in that situation?Chris Dodd: I would go out and debate. I think you got to debate.
This is a bad answer, because it treats Fox News as a credible news source. Much of the party apparatus still does not get that Fox News is not on our side. It's rather remarkable.
People like Bill Maher, who is mostly a chauvinistic asshole that has an HBO show, called Democrats 'pussies' for not going on Fox News. Media buffoons like Maher and PR unsavvy Senators like Dodd ensure that we lose our momentum in damaging Fox News and their brand. There's a moment for the next two weeks to really go out and savage this company, but the party leadership is too busy running from dirty fucking hippies to recognize that Fox News isn't just conservative but their opposition. And I guarantee that Dodd isn't getting traction among primary voters with his clueless nice guy schtick. Democratic activists and primary voters hate Fox News.
Update (Jonathan): Don't mean to butt in, but just wanted to note that Dennis Kucinich is saying about the same thing, and in stronger language, as Dodd...
Update, again: After the show, one staffer wrote to Tim Tagaris that "Dodd told me today he was a bit nervous and misunderstood the first question--knew about the fox issue, but took the question to be about debates in general." Dodd would have had a good response on Fox News, but he just didn't understand the question. It happens. I like Dodd, he's pushing important legislation, he's a really nice guy and he was there for us in Connecticut. This was a missed opportunity, though it does reflect a certain instinct towards geniality rather than the bitter-ish progressive populism that is now winning elections.
