John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

Six days ago, I asked you to assist with a Googlebomb campaign targeted exclusively at Arizona Senator John McCain. I am pleased to report that in a very short period of time, this campaign is going quite well. If all goes well, at this time next week, the CBS article on McCain will be so embedded in the Google rankings that we can target a new article on McCain, and push that one high on Google searches. Eventually, we could dominate the top twenty searches on McCain, and the truth on McCain will spread around the country, Here is how you can participate in the John McCain Googlebomb: Also, be on the lookout for new target articles we can use in the McCain Googlebomb. Strong candidates for target articles have as many of the following attributes as possible:
  • 1. The article reflects John McCain in a negative way, such as describing a John McCain scandal, John McCain supporting Bush, John McCain sucking up to the right wing, John McCain supporting escalation, John McCain flip-flopping, etc.
  • 2. It is a news article, not an op-ed or column.
  • 3. It is from a well-known, mainstream news source, rather than a campaign site or partisan media source.
  • 4. It contains the word "McCain" in the headline of the article.
  • 5. It is already in the Google top 100 on searches for McCain, and will not be removed from the website it is on for some time.
You should be pleased to learn that our efforts to engage in search engine optimization for John McCain are coming at a time when McCain is already starting to fade. Consider the following: No one is so big, so loved by the establishment media and the punditry nexus that s/he can't be taken down several pegs by the grassroots and netroots. This is especially true of McCain, champion of Sunday talk shows, because the Republican netroots and grassroots are fairly anti-McCain themselves, even though he has tried to suck up to them. Maybe I am targeting McCain above all others just because I hate the politics of unity and purpose, and would rather see Washington, D.C. overrun with more partisan polarizers. One thing is for sure, at this point I would love to see a McCain / Lieberman "escalation unity" ticket, awash in corporate money. Not only would such a ticket show the hand of the corporate and pundit class once and for all, at this rate I am growing extremely confident that such a war mongering, escalation such a ticket could be easily crushed as a nice bit of revenge for Connecticut 2006. After all, the 2008 Republican nominee for president won't be Alan Schlessinger.

Chris,

Here's a good link for you.  I did a Google image search for 'McCain, Bush' and found a whole bunch of photos of them together.  There is plenty of fondling going on in these pics--  I'm starting to wonder if these two jerks have an intimate personal thing going....

Re: John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

Here's a good Dionne piece that blasts McCain's image as a so-called "maverick": http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con tent/article/2006/03/27/AR2006032701300. html

I cringe when I hear people parrot this meme because his behavior over the past 4 years just confounds the mind.

I am sorry but this doesn't sit well with me. the last thing I need in my life is someone to take google away from me; partisans on both sides attempting to influence google - what difference is it from advertising?

this is why I never used yahoo, why I bought google stock. I am a research scientist by trade and training I just don't liek distortion..

It's their algorithm.

If they don't like it, then they should fix it.  I don't understand this purity mentality.  Search engine optimization isn't "taking google away from you."  I think you're buying into google's propaganda that their algorithm produces "organic results."  What does that even mean?  Right - it's whatever google says "organic" is.  Online organization seems like an organic process to me.

Re: It's their algorithm.

Regardless of the algorithm, I continue to be amazed by the brilliance of the googlebombing concept. Fascinating.

Hmm but if the McCain tag is high...

...won't they see this post?

I wonder what kind of reaction that would provoke. (I'm not saying it will provoke a negative one.)

Re: John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

aren't the only two real threats mccain, guilani, and that guy from the south- huckbee? is that right?

we'll need to worry about Huckabee later

Giuliani is going to get his ass kicked so hard he will regret ever listening to that "America's mayor" crap.

Huckabee would be the most difficult candidate to run against, in my view. While not a media darling in McCain's league yet, he has that "triumph over obesity" story that everyone loves, and he puts on a good act of not being crazy.

Re: we'll need to worry about Huckabee later

I totally agree -- I saw Huckabee on Stewart and he impressed the hell out of me.  I LIKED him, and I'm a stone liberal.  He has a soft-spoken, common-sense veneer that's reminiscent of a kindly school principal, and is able to flash his evangelical bona fides in a way that's reminiscent, in some respects, of Obama.  He says stuff like "I'm pro-life, but life doesn't end at birth.  We have to provide our citizens with health care ... "  He'd be much harder to attack than a smarmy wingnut in the Frist-Brownback mold.

Re: John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

Something that may also serve your purpose: the number 10 result in google for McCain is his Congresspedia profile. Congresspedia is an open wiki. People are already headed there. As Congresspedia editor, may I suggest that folks head over there and add to it the (factual, sourced) information you'd like readers to find?

If you have questions/suggestions, feel free to email me at Ckenny AT Congresspedia.org

Embedding a hyperlink

How do you embed a hyperlink in a word?

I can't googlebomb the senator if I don't know how to create a hyperlink with his name on it.

Re: John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

Out of curiousity, is the aim to prevent McCain from being nominated, or to point out the flaws in a prospective nominee?
I'd like to see the googlebombing of all the potential Republican candidates begin.

Rather than try to influence their primary, lets soften them all up; start out early and strong on the offensive. With any luck by the time someone is nominated they all will have attached memes as flipflopper, nutjob, cruel, liar, out of touch, racist, angry, divisive, warmongering, or whatever; defined by us, not them, and constantly recycled as a frame by the MSM.

Re: John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

I don't think pointing out his hawkishness is going to prevent him from getting the nomination.

Re: John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

And don't forget to click the John McCain google ad anytime you see it - that takes good money away from a bad person.

Re: John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

Here's a beauty of a headline from the L.A. Times: McCain's War Stance Alienates Many.  I couldn't have said it better myself. The story's been up for less than a day.

Re: John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

Here is another good link. It is already 53 on a google search of John McCain and is the combination of him pandering to the theocons and speaking positively of the war. It is by the Washington Post and is entitled "McCain Reconnects with Liberty University".

Re: John McCain Googlebomb Progress Report

I think this obsession with McCain rivals the right's obsession with Hillary-- its a fear motivated character assassination. All the conservative true believers are going to take aim at McCain and Guliani anyway. focus on one of THEM-- the brownbacks, huckabees, etc. Googlebombing McCain is immature and a waste of time.

Surely We Have Better Things To Do

I am sceptical that this is furthering any worthwhile cause.  The administration has depth-charged McCain more thoroughly by sending more troops to Iraq than anything this might achieve.  I reckon McCain is a non-event.

"McCain" now number 6

"Mccain" on google is now number 6, 2 above his 2008 exploratory committee's website. Amazing, that he is still calling it the "straight talk express"
