Republicans of the 12 percent

Only 12 percent of Americans back the fool Bush in his latest anti-midas escalation of the Iraq occupation. Of course, John McCain is one of them; and now Mitt Romney has joined McCain, as has Rduy Giuliani. Surprisingly, Brownback is the only '08 contender that is going against the debacle saying, "I do not believe that sending more troops to Iraq is the answer. Iraq requires a political rather than a military solution." Smart break, and the division within Republican ranks should be highlighted.

The division among Republicans may be a reflection of sinking public support for the war. A USA Today/Gallup poll conducted last week found that 12% of those surveyed supported sending more troops and that 85% favored withdrawing -- either immediately (15%), within 12 months (39%) or over as many years as needed (31%).

None of the Democrats that are running for '08 supports the escalation, but it remains to be seen who votes against funding (which is where our division will be) for the escalation.

Re: Republicans of the 12 percent

Anyone else getting the feeling that when all is said and done and the smoke clears, Brownback will be the nom.  He has the social conservative background to attract most of the fundies and his break here will attract some more within that party.  Smart move on his part.

I can see his appeal to the GOP (although I think he gets beaten in the general easy) as he doesn't have the "maverick" background McCain is perceived to have, he isn't a social moderate divorcee like Guiliani and he isn't a Mormon ala Romney.
