Bill Clinton Event Pics

Here's Chris Bowers, apparently dressed as a teaching fellow and post-doc in Comparative English Literature, meeting with Bill Clinton.  Jeralyn Merritt, looking stylish in a non-lawyerly way, is standing there as well.

A few observations about Clinton.  He's a wonk, a serious wonk.  He believes passionately in getting things done, and he's a brilliant, charming, and intensely curious man.  Clinton is extremely secure in his own skin, relaxed, and veers between jovial anecdotes about people and wonky prescriptions for problems.  He also seems like an optimist about the American political system in a way that many of us are not.

I put the rest of the pics in this flickr set.

Re: Bill Clinton Event Pics

Did anyone get a chance to ask him if he reads any blogs?

Re: Bill Clinton Event Pics

So when is somebody going to spill the beans about what you all discussed? Or was this a top secret stategery session and schmooze fest to call the blogdogs off his wife?

Re: Bill Clinton Event Pics

Bowers must be tall if he's at that eye level with Clinton.

wes, I would assume since he called this meeting with all these bloggers that he actually reads them. Plus, he's a wonk and a voracious reader.

Re: Bill Clinton Event Pics

I don't doubt for a second that Big Dog reads at least MYDD, Kos and probably Esachaton on a daily basis.

Probably Talkingpoints memo as well. And Talkleft.

Re: Bill Clinton Event Pics

Yeah, Chris and Matt are both pretty tall. And so is Atrios!

Well, hell, given my height, just about anyone would be taller than I am. :P

Never understimate optimism

It is beyond important.  If you don't have it, find a way to acquire it or understand it, because it has a fundamental place in the American psyche.

Non optimists cannot be effective in electoral politics outside of very narrow niches.

Nice pics - but...

Just a couple of tiny things:

Could Matt possibly annotate his pics with monikers, for the benefit of us lower forms of blogging life who don't get to hobnob with ex-prezes?

(Better still, do so for the group photo which is around and about.)

And - I don't suppose anyone had the presence of mind to snap the striking raven-haired girl in the tight sweater standing in front of Bill in said group photo?

Just asking...
