Hartford Delegate Credentials Fight

There are rival delegations from Hartford, and only one slate will be seated.  Apparently the Mayor of Hartford Eddie Perez seated his own delegation slate in one block instead of allowing for proportional representation like other Democratic Town Committees.  The antiwar town of Hartford will have an entirely pro-war delegation if the Lieberman-backing machine Mayor wins.  The room is structured like a trial, with opposing attorneys calling witnesses.  There are accusations of bad faith on the part of the Chairman, who apparently is relying on a different set of rules that denies proportional representation.

Update: The fight is over, the Mayor's slate was won. In fact the challenge was withdrawn as the point was mostly about democratic representation rather than an attempt to seat delegates. It mostly centered on local Hartford politics and an insider/outsider dichotomy there. Good times.

Re: Hartford Delegate Credentials Fight

Is there anything we can do to help, or is this a strictly insiders thing?

Re: Hartford Delegate Credentials Fight

This is happening as we type. I had perviously heard that the issue was settled and that the Perez delegation was to be seated.

Every elected Democrat in CT with any political ambition whatsoever is doing all they can to help Joe out. This is a real uphill fight, and was always going to be.

Re: Hartford Delegate Credentials Fight

it seems that Hartford may be the only town that delivers a block for joementum, that and Nancy Dinardo's Trumbull -

we always knew that perez was a real dirty machine player and that he was going to deliver most of Hartford for Lieberman, but hey, this is a hollow victory for Joe, as Hartford has only 54 delegates out of 1,607 -

this block crap really should be made illegal, however -

it will be nice when we get out of this machine-powered convention phase, and get into the people-powered primary phase of the contest -

nevertheless, I applaud & cheer on the good Dem delegates beyond Trumbull and Hartford that are gonna give Ned the 15% at the convention -

Lamont on national broadcast of World News Tonight

It's somewhat off topic, but I wanted to give readers who aren't at the convention the heads up that it looks like Lamont will be featured on tonight's broadcast of World News Tonight on ABC.

Check out what the broadcast will say.

Ugly fight

Seems like this fight is going to hurt both Malloy and DeStefano.  If Perez gets his way, it helps Malloy's delegate count, but undecided delegates may be turned off to Malloy because they don't like what Perez did.

Likewise, if other delegates are allowed to be seated that are not in the original Perez group, it will help DeStefano's delegate count, but there will be talk that it was done unfairly or that the rules were broken to help DeStefano.

Either way, the whole situation sucks.  Why aren't their tighter bylaws for the party to make clear whether what Perez did is acceptable?

Can we organize a march?

I haven't had time to volunteer so far. But I wouldn't mind flying over to take part in a massive march during a crucial meeting like this. What other important dates are coming up? I mean, if we organize well, maybe we can get a huge crowd going and intimidate the insiders with our numbers.

I am just throwing out this idea. Not sure how effective it would in reality.
