Unity08 Has No Grassroots Support At All

In case anyone was wondering whether or not Unity08 was actually a front-group for top-down, corporate political consultants who are worried about the rising grassroots and netroots influence on, at the very least, the Democratic Party, just look at their amazing donor list. With droves of free publicity and great political savy, they have generated all of about $80,000 from less than 100 donors to support McCain / Lieberman / Bloomberg. This compares, um, poorly to the $17 million Act Blue raised for Democrats in 2006, almost all of which came from tens of thousands of small donors giving less than $50 a pop.
Of course, you don't actually need small donors when you can raise corporate cash like Lieberman. And hey, if you are Michael Bloomberg, you don't need donors at all. In fact, when you are as loved by media and political insiders as their favorite candidates, who needs supporters at all? The press--much of which you actually own--will give you all the fawning coverage and free media you need in order to generate votes.
They don't accept special interest money, but since they accept checks from people who can give out $5,000--most of whom live in the D.C. area--apparently rich consultants are not special interests. That is, of course, the entire point behind Unity08: rich, center-right, "non-partisan" donors who trash progressives and never criticize conservatives in power know how to fix the problems facing America. The only way you can save America is first by leaving the party where the people of America are taking over, and then by forming a new party where the people of America have absolutely no interest in that party whatsoever.
