Couple years back...

I was sick and couldn't sleep so I turned on C-Span and at about 530am Washington time, Colin Peterson was on there explaining all the ways CAFTA blew chunks.

Re: New Committee Chairs

No surprises. All but Reyes were previously ranking members or (in Filner's case) were in line to be ranking members after the retirement of the ranking member.

Absolutely.  It's absurd.

Disagreements

Look this is a very simple thing to rectify, it's complicated but you can educate yourself on the subject and if Reyes demonstrates he's willing to do that then I don't see a problem.

With the GOP you knew they weren't even going to try.

Re: and reyes needs to go

Sorry.  You don't resign your chairmanship because you failed one pop quiz.

Sure, it's embarassing, but this is a typically blogospheric crusade for perfection.  No matter who the Democrat is, one screw-up or one negative allegation and it's like, "he needs to go!"  It's like a caricature of the circular firing squad we all love so much.

Louis Slaughter, as Traffic Cop....

for the House will have a huge influence on what gets to the House floor and what happens once it gets there.  I'd rank her as third most powerful, behind Rangel and Dingell.  What can progressives expect from her?

Re: New Committee Chairs

That's the "Natural Resources" committee, thanks to Congressman Nick Jo Rahall (D-WV).

Chairman Don Young dropped the 'natural' as an attack on the very idea of nature and naturalness in 1995.  Those were heady ideological days for the young turk Rs...

Oh, joy

What a great moment I had, pulling up MyDD and seeing this list -- not as a hope or a goal, but as a reality.  The excitement at what we've achieved keeps surprising me, long after it should have worn off.

Re: New Committee Chairs

None of them are a surprise. But, some on that list make me positively giddy.

Re: New Committee Chairs

I've been trying to find out the complete committee membership lists for the 110th. Raw Story has a partial list up, but not the whole thing. Does anyone know where I can find this without having to wait for it to convene next year?

Re: New Committee Chairs

What a batting order!  OK: so Reyes struck out his first time up, but still ... like, wow, man!  It's been a long, long time since we've seen a political lineup this good.

The chairman of the "Intelligence" Committee not knowing a damn thing about the Middle East is just one minor screw-up? You Demos make me laugh.

And Lantos is just plain evil. Plus your party is evil as they are already planning to do nothing to stop the war in Iraq.
