Virginia is for Democrats

I love living in Virginia!

Taking out George Allen, who was the runaway insider poll's #1 pick for the Republican's Presidential nomination in December of 2005-- that's one of the biggest upsets in the last 50 years.

Steve Jarding told me yesterday that over 60% of the fundraising for Webb came over the internet. This win is so huge for the netroots.

And if there's any silver lining from Gov Warner having dropped out of the Presidential contest, it's that he was able to go to the mat for Jim Webb the past two weeks throughout Virginia-- it made the difference.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

Hey Jerome...

Any chance Warner would take a VP nod if offered?  You worked with him so I figure if anyone would know it would be you.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

I have no clue. I would try and convince him if Gore would step up and get the nomination.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

I'm thinking Gore or if Obama runs and gets it, Warner would be a great running mate with either...

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

Thank you to the MYDD and the progressive blogs for playing a huge part in delivering the most satisfying election eason of my life.

The Dems have the opportunity to restore the checks and balances.

Webb just declared himself the winner, Bully for him.  He seems like a long lost bad-ass uncle.

In one sweet season I see Kerry, Allen and Warner (forgive me, I've just never got Warner) and Santorum all swept from the 08 presidential slate.

Thank you

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

Hmm, candidates are being bought and paid for by the netroots? That's got a nice ring to it.

Anti-Republican isn't the same as good for good Democrats. For that, you need to head out west.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

It pisses me off that we're going to have a mostly republican leadership here in California.  How fucked up is that?  Time to work more on the state level for me, now that the national level is not so bleak.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

MSNBC reported that 30,000 votes remain to be counted in Fairfax County.  This should seal it for Webb.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

NBC says that Fairfax County's vote has not come in yet, which should favor Webb, but they are also saying that there is likely to be a recount, so, looks like I will have to donate to Webb again.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats
And let me confirm that at least one of those ActBlue donations for Webb was directly inspired by y'all's work here! (It was a miniscule donation, but seriously, reading this site is what got me to dig the change out of my underfull grad-student pockets.)

he's holding on. The polls have been closed now for nearly 6 hrs or more,

    Collins , Mac  GOP  73,075  50.41
Marshall , Jim (i)  Dem  71,878  49.59

Thats less than 2,000 votes.
looks like a recount.

I feel so much better now

After the predictable but still depressing Lamont news, I needed this. What about the absentee ballots. Will those favor Allen? Anyone has any idea what is going on with the demographics on those?

Not just because of fundraising, but because of a certain little site called youtube.com ... :-)

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

Most of the remaining precints favor Webb.  Plus leading at the end of an election with a guarenteed recount is HUGE.  Last year there was a VA recount and the totals changed by less than 200.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

I'm willing to call it now for Webb. (Or maybe I just want to go to bed.)

He is up by 5000 with all but 10 precincts counted.

J H Webb     Democratic   1,162,004 49.50%
G F Allen    Republican   1,157,259 49.30%

Damn, that is razor-thin.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

I think Claire deserves to win. That thing where Rush Limbaugh mocked a person with parkinsons disease was pretty rude.

I heard rush keeps talking about how there have not been any cures from embryonic stem cell research. welll DUH, its semi=illegal and with bush republicans restricting the lines that american scientists can use,  the results are zero because the research hasn't started yet. the whole debate is about when will we start competing with the rest of the world, not what cures exist.

I love living in Virginia!

You wouldn't if you were gay, asshole.

And that's another reason that I don't have much to do with Democrats at the national level.

That's uncalled for.  Jerome has never said he supports the Gay Marriage amendment.  He can like living in a state and not agree with the politics of all its citizens.

Webb Just Declared VICTORY

That's how you do it ladies and gentlemen!

Reinforce the media image that your candidate has IN FACT WON.  Rest is just a formality.

He said it like it should have been said.

WE WON.

Count the votes, but they'll only show you won.

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

Jerome,

Virginia is still a complete disgrace.  Should the state really be congratulated by barely beating a complete racist in the worse environment for the GOP since Watergate.  Sure, Macaca lost, but by only 5,000 or so votes.  That's pathetic.  Still, I'm shocked.  I never thought Webb had a chance in this back asswards state.  That said, he did win, but Virginia still sucks!

Re: Virginia is for Democrats

Ease up bud!

Im angry enough about being a gay  man whose relationship just became anathema to the state gov't!

BUT - bear in mind that VA is changing - and the margins of change are coming along nicely - two dem govs in a row. Now defeat of Allen, who was really quite popular here (I have to take a break and beat down a gay friend of mine who voted Allen and even handed his lit out!).

VA is coming along nicely in the shift. Give us time. Beating down Allen, who has never lost a race before, is a HUGE step! A few months ago, it was seen as impossible!
