Dem House Gains at 30

There's still the Georgia races to finalize, but right now, Marshall is ahead in the GA-8th CD, and Barrow is ahead in the 12th, so at this point, not a single Democratic seat has been lost in either the House or the Senate. That is historical.

Now, CNN has called 27 Republican-held seats going Democratic, and going by this chart that has the remaining open seats (and looking at who has the lead currently), Democrats would win 30 seats. MSNBC also has a 30 seat gain for Dems, with 4 seats remaining to be called.

Update [2006-11-8 2:53:54 by Jerome Armstrong]:The seats that are the most perplexing right now are NM 1st, is Sante Fe outstanding? The PA 6th, what part of Chester is this? I think Burner in WA 8th could still pull out a victory.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

We are destroying them all over the country.  Allen will concede soon.  The House AND Senate are back where they belong!

Governors too

No Democratic governors lost, right? Even more historic.

Re: Governors too

Dems gain six, lose zero. Total count: 28-20 nationwide. Amazing.

Re: Governors too

Assuming RI and MN go Repub, total is 28-22.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

So, even though our house sweep wasn't anywhere near what the Rethug sweep was in '94, NOBODY, EVER, has swept both houses (hoping), and not lost a seat in the transition, correct?

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

If that's the case, THAT. IS. THE. TALKING. POINT.

There's no reason to bring anything else up.

Just simply respond with this.  End of story.  Fuck you Chimpy.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

Well a lot of the big 1994 sweep can be attributed to a realigning of the last of the old southern democrats...

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

Hmm, I thought we had lost ga-08, but it looks liek the D is ahead by about 700 votes, 76,717 to 76,009, with 95% reporting.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

It's too early to start talking about getting a veto-proof majority in the Senate in 2008... or is it?

32 seats +6 in Senate is a rout, by any measure.

Fuck you, Rove.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

A rout indeed, but everyone is talking about how the  Dems need to govern from the middle.  We need to start tomorrow changing the messaging around progressive issues so that we can convince the public that we actually are the middle, like Reagan convinced everyone his conservatism was middle of the road.

We have a big fight here to push more progressive issues like renewable energy and fair trade, getting out of Iraq, etc...  They are already trying to spin this as a moderates election.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

Repubs lost because they were too extreme. How much simpler than that? And it's true.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

OH GOD FORBID, NOW WE have the fucking majority.... so NOW we have to move to the middle.

Screw the middle.  If we can spin progressive values as "the new middle", great.

If not, I don't wanna move to the right a little bit, because Turd Blossom is whining.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

As a member of the middle and a proud Democrat, let me hope that this isn't the prevailing sentiment in the party.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

here's the problem i have with what you just said. What is the middle? I am serious- I consider  myself politically moderate, but when we have ape shit psychos like the present Republican leadership spinning about how we need to govern from the middle- well, I think someone would tell them their definition of middle isn't the same as ours.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

Exactly.  I'm tired of always "compromising".

Compromising is only allowed when we're in power.  As soon as the Rethugs get a damn majority, they use it as a "mandate", and unless you're right-wing, they kick you to the curb.

The Rethugs have successfully cut the middle out of this country.  They reap what they sow.

Compromise?  I'll give you compromise.

Healthcare for all Americans
Progressive Values
Civil Rights for All
Sensible Tax solutions for the Middle Class

or bust.  These are "middle" values anymore.  They're LEFT!  Why?  Because you've gotta be a White Married Male to be a member of the Republican Party today!

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

I just had the same discussion w/ this person about judicial appointments. if peo think crazies like janice rogers brown represent the right of center middle (a woman who thinks the last 75 years of legal juris was a mistake) then we have a really long way to go to discover what the middle is

I guessed 34 House and 6 Senate seats in Kevin Drum's poll a few days back.

I think I might win the Buick!

PA-6

I lived in Berwyn and voted in the 6th via absentee.  It extends out to Coatesville.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

Pombo in CA 11 is down too. CNN's chart has his district as white, meaning, I guess, that they can't tell. But, he's been losing all night.

CA-11A!!!

A bunch of precincts checked in in CA-11, and McNerney is improving!  I'm projecting him to win with 52% right now.  About 68% of the votes have checked in.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

The part of Santa Fe county that's in NM-1 is in the East Mountains, not the city of Santa Fe. Madrid won't pick up many votes there.

Re: Dem House Gains at 30

I actually think Burner can pull it out too. She trails 52 to 48. Right now, east Pierce County - which is a Reichert stronghold - has counted 32% of its ballots. While King County - where Burner currently leads, albeit narrowly - has only counted 15%. Also, if the parts of King County that haven't been counted include a lot of Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Burner could def. come back.

You mean Lamont won in CT?!  Excellent!

Or are you embracing Lieberman again now that you need him?

Lieberman will abandon the Dem caucus.  Count on it.
