70% Turnout in Connecticut

I was out poll standing at a school in Meriden for a few hours, and the turnout was steady.  I spent some time talking to a nice Joe Lieberman volunteer.  I offered her some banana nut bread, and she said "No, I'm diabetic.  And besides, I have donuts in the car."

Also she was very antiwar.  Go figure.

The Secretary of State's office is projecting 70% turnout, and in such a case it's impossible to know what's going on.  Doug Schwartz at Quinnipiac should put out a lot of statements about how this race would shape up, and his credibility and that of his university are on the line.

I expect the Democrats to take the House and the Senate.  This race is shaping up to be really interesting.  If you haven't voted yet, get to the polls.

Is it really necessary to mention her weight?

Hey, at least no one can accuse us of being Politically Correct. Man, she reminds me of the lady on Daria when they go to sell some girl scout cookies or something and the fat diabetic passes out after demanding to eat those cookies.

Re: 70-72% Turnout in Connecticut

I think the turnout in CT for 04 was about 67%, is that correct? If so then 70-72 is an enormous number for a mid-term, it's got to be Ned's night. Gotta be.

Donuts all around.

Hey, don't forget us Jews (except Lieberman, you can forget him). Abraham and Moses shall descend as well and cast all of the Evangelicals Meth Ad-I mean Radicals out of D.C.

I called NARAL. and you guys should too

I don't see how high turnout benefits Lamont as he is counting on his strong support to upset Lieberman's soft but bigger support. Unless Lamont's GOTV success has been amazing. Only then, we have a chance. I can't wait. Please, please, let there be an upset.

In the meantime, I called NARAL and was polite with the lady who spoke on the phone and tried to get the logic of the Lieberman only endorsement. She said they couldn't endorse two candidates. I said why not. There is no rule one has to endorse a candidate. Why not put on the map that both candidates are friends of NARAL , even if one assumes Lieberman remains a good friend of NARAL.

She then forwarded me to her manager. So I left a message for her, but my message to her was angrier than my tone with the first person , though I resisted the temptation of really letting her have it and insulting her.

I pretty much laid out how dumb their logic was.

If Lamont loses, let NARAL hear it in the next few days and burn em so bad that they will think twice before making such endorsements in the future. They really need to be inconvenienced. Might speaks in politics, not politeness. Use politeness only to buy time to make your points with them.

Re: 70% Turnout in Connecticut

High turnout has got to be good for Ned. From the start Ned's supporters had the drive and passion, can you imagine anyone making an extra effort to vote for Joe? Me neither.

This sets all the polls' "likely voter" screens on their ear. Look for a Lamont victory. Narrow, maybe 1 to 3 percent, but a victory nonetheless.

And ...NARAL can go kiss my ass.

Turnout in Connecticut

I've seen one report that Lamont's exit polling has him up by 4.  The high turnout has got to be in Ned's favor.  Lieberman voters just aren't as highly motivated.

Re: 70% Turnout in Connecticut

If we win no other race, I want Lamont to win.

If we win everywhere except Connecticut, I will feel that we lost.

I'm in Illinois, but I'd rather have CHENEY as Senator than Lieberman.

Was there synergy among all the CT dem candidates

I think the one of the few ways a high turnout can favor Lamont is if the other Dem candidates running for various CT seats have endorsed Lamont enthusiastically to their followers and they are part of the reason why there is a high turnout instead of Lieberman's hate machine spurring the working class to show up.

It is tough for me to predict because we saw very little coverage of that aspect of the election. How much pull the local CT dem leaders pulling for Lamont have compared to the local CT dem leaders pulling for Lieberman over the voters who don't like the war but had the inclination to vote for Lieberman because of the comfort factor.
When I see so many individual dem voters show contradictory support to Lieberman (like the fat lady), I wonder if the state CT dem party did enough of a good job, and we spent more time bashing the national leaders. Anyway, that's for the postgame analysis tomorrow.

Let's hope for the best!!!! Right now, I am concentrating on Tester, Webb, and Lamont. If Ford loses(I actually think Lamont has a better shot at winning), will the pundits blame his triangulation or "moderation" for his defeat the same way they will inevitably blame the netroots foolishly in case Lamont does not pull this off?

Don't overlook the firefighters' union. The head was on MSNBC, sticking with Joe through thick and thin.

Re: 70% Turnout in Connecticut

Results here.

Very early, but Lamont is running slight ahead of Joe. Looks strong.

Re: 70% Turnout in Connecticut

Hmmm , that's a great suprise. TV is showing nothing so far.

I can't see Lamont holding to that 45-41 lead. I just think a high turnout doesn't help him.

Re: 70% Turnout in Connecticut

Over 70% turnout in my Democratic town, of about 1100 votes between them, Lieberman ended up by about 50, a bit less than 5%.  By contrast, Lamont won the primary with 73% of the vote.  Joe's thoroughly dishonest campaign was very effective.
