Register to Vote if you Live in One of These States!

Update: I missed Florida, New Mexico, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, New York, and Virginia. Ack.

If you haven't registered to vote and you live Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Washington, do it today.  The deadlines for those states fall between October 7 - October 11, which is early next week.  Voter registration is no longer hard.  I did it a few days ago (change of address) through this site, which produced a nice slick PDF which I mailed in.  The whole process took me fifteen minutes.

http://civic.moveon.org/save_the_interne t/voter_reg.html

As a bonus, since I did it through that site I'm now counted as an 'Internet Freedom Voter', or a voter who cares about net neutrality.

If you need deadlines for other states, go to this post.

You can also register to vote through this url if you want to register to vote and for some reason are against net neutrality: http://www.govote.org/?t1=120

Re: Register to Vote if you Live in One of These S

29 days before the whatever election you want to participate in.  If you mail in your registration, the date of significance is the postmark date.  Best to err on the side of caution though because of how fouled up elections are in this state.

I believe the same rules apply for things like change of address, party affiliation, etc.

Re: Register to Vote if you Live in One of These S

Hold on a sec - you posted a list that included FL just the other day:

http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/10/4/1723 22/483

FL is the 10th according to this (and I'm fairly certain that would be the postmark date for mailed applications).

Re: Register to Vote

I have a hard time imagining that anyone who reads a blog like this isn't already registered and hasn't requested an early ballot where possible. But I guess sometimes the choir are the only ones around to preach to.

Standard instruction to GOTV workers: vote first

It's not at all uncommon for GOTV workers to relax exhausted at 8 p.m., and suddenly realize they forgot to vote themselves.

My accountant was last seen working on her Oct. 15 (extended deadline) tax return.

Shoemaker's shoes, yada, yada, yada.

Also, read upthread. Not only readers of, but writers of, this blog need to register sometimes, and sometimes close to the last minute.

So get wise to yourself, Sitkah; your worst fears may be about to be realized--Conyers and Waxman could be committee chairmen.

Use The Correct Voter Registration Form!!!

In Colorado, our Katherine Harris/Ken Blackwell wannabe SoS Gigi Dennis revised the voter registration form at the last minute, so she could throw out the applications that didn't help out the corrupt GOP candidates.

Gross negligence

Go to the RNC homepage and the first thing you see is a box to click for an early ballot.

Go to the DNC homepage and there isn't even a box to register.

I've been a supporter of Dean in most regards, but he needs to be horsewhipped for such gross negligence.

Pull down the action menu

It's under "Register to Vote."

I agree, it should be even more prominent.

Voter Reg
Absentee Ballots
Early Voting

We are bitching about these things too late, and yes, the Democrats are fucking up, AGAIN.

I hope Dr. Dean, if he remains un-horsewhipped, will have some long-range success if correcting these deficiencies over the next few cycles.

Primary fights, by the way, soak up the early money and energy that should go into these activities although do as I say not as I did, kids.

Re: Pull down the action menu
I disagree about primaries. They are a good process for vetting and coming up with the best candidates for the general election.
More choice is always better for voters than less.

I know I'm in the minority here

But we have a chance in Ohio, and we're fighting for the Senate in CT. Holy Joe would not be thinking of flipping except for the Lamont challenge, and whoever won the OH bloodbath would be chasing the "moderate" Dewine.

In Calif., our gubnatorial candidate is getting creamed because of an unnecessary, bloody and destructive primary.

In the Kerry and Clinton case, they were probably good because over with quickly. But Kennedy (whom I supported) mortally wounded Carter, Buchanan destroyed Bush, Bradley paved the way for Nader to fuck up Gore, and the list goes on.

There are definitely pros and cons.

But, please God, I know the Jews have suffered enough. But if you have it your heart, please fuck up Joe Lieberman for me. If you do, I'll convert to Catholicism and give up pork for Lent.

Re: I know I'm in the minority here

In other words, the party establishment should be unchallenged within the party for life. The Democratic got the best candidate in Lamont. Just because JoeBlow is an assho doesn't mean the wrong thing happened.

No, in other words, beat him.

Beat him.

This is an all-in moment.

Beat Holy Joe even if it means losing every other Senate race.

We don't have the Senate now, and I can't the thought of seeing that putz in public life, and I can't stand hearing the "netroots" shooting its collective mouth off about fucking wonderful it is if that snide little prick can kiss Republican ass, concede Republican elections with kiss ass grace, fuck Al Gore, fuck Bill Clinton, and THEN grow balls and fight like a tiger for his own, sorry, worthless, no-good ass.

Beat Holy Joe.

Beat him bad.

Am I the only one who sees how much the prestige of the cockamamie "netroots" is riding on this.

People are going to laugh at your asses for six long pride-crushing years if you don't win this.

Beat Holy Joe.

Or find a place to live with no computers, newspapers or computers.

You're the guys who like primaries.

Well, win this one.

Beat Holy Joe.

You've got a perfect opportunity. Call him a Republican night and day. Assert, as a matter of fact, that he's going to flip, that he and Rove met in a graveyard and swapped spit. Every day, call him a Republican.

At the very least, he'll have to promise to be a Democrat.

At the very least, you won't be blamed for booting away the sentence if he doesn't flip.

But fuck that.

Beat Holy Joe.

Beat him bad.

Re: No, in other words, beat him.

I don't accept your premise that beating JoeBlow means losing every other Senate race. It's just one race among hundreds and is receiving less attention than many others.

You sound like you want him to win.

Calm down. Take a stress pill.

We should all try to register someone else too, and then make sure that person votes.

Calling all New Yorkers

Please take a moment and cast your vote for the person you would like to see campaigning with John Hall, who is running for Congress in NY-19.

NC date is Oct 8

You have Oct. 13 listed, but that is date for receipt by voter board.  This Friday, Oct. 8, is the real deadline.
