I thought the story you had on Michael Steele was ok, but somewhat weak.  This ABC News report seems to me to be a bit harder hitting.  Steele is one who doesn't so much have scandals as controversy.  He says and does foolish things, not illegal things.

I'm not sure the one on Cathy McMorris is all that damning, i.e., how many points does she really lose for failing to throw Jim West under the bus quickly enough.  The two sentences in the article that refer to her make her come across as compassionate, at least from where I'm sitting.

So I like the Harper's story, not least because I like Harper's magazine. And I admit that the Phoenix New Times isn't out-and-out damning. Harper's also has the nice phrase "ethically-challenged Republican Congressman Rick Renzi."

However, I'm skeptical that voters in AZ-01 (my district), a rural, generally libertarian district, will put much stock in what Harper's writes. Truthfully, I don't think either of these articles is as negative as we'd like (neither captures Renzi's angry tirade on the floor of the House). But I think voters might be more inclined to believe the AZ paper, and one that isn't known as necessarily liberal (at least to the extent that Harper's is).

Then again, what about just using the YouTube video?

The article on Kyl takes a long time to get to the bad stuff about him (at the end).  That's good stuff though.

However, it omits mention of his false "live" congressional testimony that Justice Stevens called him out for in Hamden.

Slate covers that in good detail.  It's just the one incident, but it does show his dishonesty and willingness to influence the courts to rule against freedom.

On the downside, Time rated him one of the 10 best senators.  Not linking to that one, for fear of raising's it's google profile...

As for using blogs, I think it is a good idea because many times the folks at local media are reading and using material uncovered by blogs for their work.

We have no idea how often or how strongly that factor is at work, but it most certainly does happen.

It's not scandalous per se, but he's uber conservative and voters should not be fooled that he's just a mainstream republican.   Actually he is, but their impression of a "mainstream" republican probably isn't as extreme as this guy.

His FL state district was much smaller than FL-16.

I think we can do better on ID01, Bill Sali. The currently linked article is an overview of the race in general, and it tries to be balanced. Sali could be seen as either an extremist or a quirky conservative populist who fights for what he believes in, depending on the reader's point of view. It does mention Sali is disliked by many other Idaho politicians, but that isn't the focus of the article and isn't discussed until about halfway through the article.

I think rather than this, we want an article that is wholly negative, and one that highlight's Sali's idiocy.  I think I found one at:

It does a great job of making Sali look like a nut.  It highlights the "that idiot's just an idiot" moment, and talks about Sali making other State Reps burst into tears and leave the House in protest. It also mentions other moves Sali has made that have hurt the pro-life movement, and suggests he will continue to make such moves.

The article suggests that Sali is almost a Manchurian Candidate, who is so insane about pro-life views that he will hurt the pro-life movement.  In my opinion, that's a good thing for us to tell voters, because it will turn off both prolife and prochoice voters, if for different reasons. A prolife voter won't want a crazy man to set back their issue, and would probably rather vote Grant or not vote at all than vote for Sali. A prochoice or even moderately prolife voter will be turned off by Sali's extremism, and again will vote Grant or not vote at all. A win-win situation.

The listed link is to a letter to the editor.  Fine, but not nearly as juicy as this florida newspaper article about his opponent, Klein, calling on Shaw to return the 30K of Tom Delay money has has not returned.

That's probably the best one, but for reference there is also a secret cheney visit which fucked up traffic, and the DCCC has a scathing page on the guy.

It's tough to say...neither illegal fundraising nor illegal land deals are exactly "sexy" issues. But people in Arizona are steeped in land issues (a source of the libertarianism) so it might be more accessible than the staffers-raising-money issue.

But really, I'm not sure.

A quick suggestion when you put together the list of articles.  It would be great to know exactly where the articles rank before we started "recommending" them to google as great articles.  i.e. The rolling stone article would have been the 8th article on page two (number 18 overall)
