lies. damned lies. statistics.
where is the blog entry supporting real change?
kerry is filibustering alito.
By the way, the ART OF HAPPINESS rests in empathy - and polls hardly take you there. it is different, as the dalai lama says, for each of us. It is this simple fact that makes me stand up and support John Kerry.
The poll will be here tomorrow and the next day.
What of the strong voice in the senate? The Dalai Lama to this day works to liberate Tibet.
The water and the rock, meet. The water wins, because it flows against the rock constantly.
Here, we have one democrat finally standing up - the posts you wrote against Alito. Let the polls stand for a while. Polls do not tell you who you are.
You find that inside yourself. There was a story once about a man who had paint dropped on his shoe, and then a small boy asked if he could clean it off.
The boy cleans it off, and then demands an outrageous sum for it. The man balks, and then the boy starts to scream, and make a scene. So ultimately the man pays the young boy, but he gets into a cab, very angry.
So the cab driver asks him where he wants to go, and when he finally gets there, he notices a slight difference in the fare. The man blows up at the cab driver. Its only a small amount, but because the man is distracted by something that happened to him - he cannot feel what the other fellow is feeling.
And later, he learns, that empathy is different, each to another - and he finds that in himself, he chose the wrong path simply because the journey of his life took him to a place where he was ruled by the Greek thought of retribution.
Tell me if you are so silent on John Kerry because there isn't a bit of greek in you. Tell me why a poll would mean more right now, than a man who is courageously standing up against fascism.
And I will show you someone holding onto a dead issue.
No offense but I'm not a fan of this new look. It will take some adjusting
The value is not necessarily in the "top line" numbers (no matter what they indicate), but in the crosstabulations. That information will help communicate a message.
In a hypothetical instance: A subgroup of respondants indicate NRA membership (ostensibly, strong support for literal interpretation of the 2nd Amendment) and also indicate some type of approval for dubya's expansive view of domestic spying. A directed message to this subgroup might state something along the lines: "If the 4th Amendment is gone, can the 2nd Amendment be far behind?"
I like it, so you must be a traitor.
You're either for the new look, or you're against America.
This American doesn't like it. The Dalai Lama probably likes it.. Its awkward. And they're trying to change their name to "direct democracy".
If you look carefully at this layout, its designed to put banner advertising in more prominent places.
Its not that cool.
That aside, Kerry's broadside into the Bush Machine today still hasn't made it to a promoted diary. So this site is fading fast for me, just on content. Nobody cares about what font you use, when you're starting a revolution..
I'm worried if the poll is gonna turn out to be not too kind to our positions if it'll devalue MyDD's and other blogs desire to do further polls.
They removed my comments. The first version had the Dalai Lama up in the upper left corner, and Bowers came in and removed my comments about Supporting John Kerry.
Interesting...
This is so exciting. I contributed to the poll fund and now we have the beginnings of My Direct Democracy. For a middle-aged homemaker (yes we still exist) this is exciting (yes my life is boring). Bush and his right wing nuttery is my number one worry for my two children (18 & 20).
Thanks for all you do.
Well, I have to offer my congratulations to Chris and all of the MyDD community! I have to admit, when I heard what the price tag was for getting this poll off the ground, I thought there was no way enough money would be raised. But, I was wrong. You guys all did a great job. I am truly impressed!
Sure is a macho quote you've got there in your sig.
Recoil!
Heh.
What's it feel like when it turns out there's not a terrorist on the other end of the rifle.
Recoil!
Yep. Feels the same.
Nice observation Curt. I suppose you can also ask this question:
What do you feel when you shoot a child? Recoil.
Yeah, 'cause our Marines are out there constantly shooting innocents and children. But you guys support the troops, right?
But look, I changed the sig to something I feel is more fitting.
I dont want to start a flame war, or distract from Chris's Diary. For the record, I do not believe that Marine snipers target obvious civilians, especially children. I also dont believe that snipers dont become more engaged in battle than the icy quote implies. But when reaction to the act of killing another person is reduced to commentary on how the weapon functions, its a fair observation that the same reaction would be illicited whenever the weapon works the same way. How's this? "What do you feel when you miss an insurgent?" "Recoil." Same reaction.
I support our troops very much, and it makes me sick to know that they have been mobilized to invade and occupy a sovereign nation based on lies and propoganda, motivated by greed. So lets support 'em all and bring 'em home.
"Don't get stuck on stupid" - Lt. Gen. Honore
I like that one alot better. In fact I like it plain and simple.
Of course troops aren't out there constantly shooting innocents and they don't look for that to happen but checkpoint tragedies occur nevertheless. With that in mind I did object to your previous sig. Quotes like that are fine for soldiers to each other in war but in a sig they offend.
At least us sensitive liberals.
I agree with you Curt 100%. As an ER MD I have been inches from death and overwhelming personal tragedy maybe even more times than a marine sniper. The job requires a dispassionate detachment, and I have made comments to colleagues before that could be seen as cold. If someone asked me what happens when you turn off the life support machines, and I responded "a lower electic bill" (Bu-dum dum) I could see how many people would see that as harsh and dehumanizing. But people have to see comments like that in context. If I wasn't able to maintain some professional detachment, I couldnt do my job.
I dont have a real problem with the sniper quote.. What do you feel when you kill a terrorist? "recoil" (Ba-dum dum) I do have a problem with taking a quote like that off the battlefield, out of context, and lionizing it as if it were a great philosophy of life. You are right that attaching that comment as a signature is offensive.
So reptroll, go back to you office or paper-route or whatever job pays your bills, and leave causal comments about death to men and women who have earned the right to make them.
I've noticed that you or someone is posting things withtout explanation, ignoring the fact that many readers may have missed a post or two and don't know what you're talking about.
For example, the Get the Party Started discussion announcement appeared and I bought the book and then there was nothing for several days and I had to try to remember which blog site I had seen the announcement on......Then it appeared again...And what exactly is meant by discussion...chat..or just people adding comments...it's not clear...You need to do a little more explanation, for best results I think..
I was gone last night, so missed the "discussion" but would like to be filled in on it...that and the poll thing you are so excited about and I don't even know what the poll is about...
