"Tom's Tainted Team"

Via the League of Conservation Voters (pdf), the 10 Members of "Tom's Tainted Team" and their campaign contributions from Rep. DeLay are as follows:

  1. Rep. Bob Beauprez (CO-7) - $30,000
  2. Rep. Chris Chocola (IN-2)  - $40,000
  3. Rep. Phil Gingrey (GA-11) -  $25,000
  4. Rep. Katherine Harris (FL-13) - $20,000
  5. Rep. Mark Kennedy (MN-06) - $29,500
  6. Rep. Rick Renzi (AZ-1) -  $30,000
  7. Rep. Mike Rogers (AL-3) - $30,000
  8. Rep. Pete Sessions (TX-32) - $26,644
  9. Rep. Clay Shaw (FL-22) - $30,020
  10. Rep. Heather Wilson (NM-1) - $46,959

Harris and Kennedy are running for Senate, those are both open seats that are winnable. Beauprez, Chocola, Renzi, and Wilson are all vulnerable. Taking 5 out of those 10 seats is very much a possibility in '06.

RE: "Tom's Tainted Team"
Jerome- Any updated thoughts on Lampson?  If Delay continues to be poison, is there a primary challenger in TX-22 to try to keep it Republican?

Re: RE: "Tom's Tainted Team"
I don't have anything on it right now, a primary challenge? That would be sweet-- DeLay would still likely win the bloody primary.

Re: RE: "Tom's Tainted Team"
My adjunct International Law professor is Lampson's former chief of staff, and I happen to have his class for the first time tomorrow. He was also a former Secretary of State in Virginia (he told me last December he thought Warner would go for the big prize) and seems to be fairly involved inside the Beltway.

I'll make sure to get some thoughts out of him tomorrow..

No Ferguson?
Mike Ferguson has taken more money than anyone else from DeLay, and voted for MTBE exclusions.  How could they leave him off this list?

Dave Reichert
didn't Reichert take $20,000 from ARMPAC?  I think it's a good place to start taking back that swing district

Re: Dave Reichert
This is specifically a League of Conservation Voters enemy list. Since Reichert occasionally throws environmentalists a bone with a vote (in fact, as he did yesterday when he broke with the GOP to vote against the modifications to the Endangered Species Act), he's probably not at the top of their to-defeat list.

Nevertheless, he should probably be considered one of the top 10 most vulnerable incumbents next year, and the $20,000 he got from ARMPAC should be the lead-off argument at every occasion for his opponent next year.

Robin Hayes
He took over 40K from DeLay and contributed to his defense fund.
I think Marine Corps Colonel Tim Dunn makes a good contrast.

Okay, I see...
Their qualifications include:
MTBE polluters have no better friend in Congress than the ethically challenged and now indicted former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX). As one Republican congressional staff member said, "It's not an energy bill anymore. It's an MTBE-Tom DeLay bill." And the `MTBE-Tom DeLay bill' has no better friend than the 10 House Republicans who are part of his `Tainted Team.' All of these members of Congress have:
  • Voted at least twice for the House Energy bill that includes the MTBE polluter bailout provision;
  • Taken campaign cash from the oil and gas industry (including in many cases contributions from either Valero Energy, a big manufacturer of MTBE which is based in Texas, and/or Lyondell Chemical, one of the largest manufacturers, based in DeLay's district)
  • Received at least $20,000 in contributions from Mr. DeLay's PAC, Americans for a Republican Majority (partially funded by MTBE interests), if not more from his personal campaign account;
  • And have MTBE contamination in their districts and in some cases, pending lawsuits against oil, gas and MTBE producers filed in their states that would be nullified if the MTBE provision were enacted into law.

Bowers
Bowers doesn't like environmental groups.  I'm surprised the "new boss" allowed you to post this.

Beauprez...
...The 7th in Colorado is an open seat anyway, with Beauprez bowing out to run for Governor...even better reason to "Hammer" him with this!

Our nominee against Kennedy in MN
needs to beat him over the head with it and start defining Mark Kennedy as sleaze starting right NOW.

Something tells me that MN, unlike some other states, very much frowns upon corruption.

If only we could pick a nominee!

Mike Rogers' seat in Alabama
is quite winnable if the right candidate can be recruited.

Add Smith to the DeLay Dirty Laundry List
Dont' forget about DeLay's Texas henchman Lamar Smith (R) TX 22 a TRMPAC supporter. With the indictment Wednesday 9/28 of DeLay , it seems inevitable that the House Ethics Committee will face the responsibility of investigating his questionable ethical activities and conduct. Americans should demand that there be a fair and thorough investigation to insure the integrity of the House of Representatives and to provide full disclosure of the findings from an investigation. To insure that such an investigation will not be limited or incomplete, we need to recognize that Lamar Smith must step down from his seat on the House Ethics Committee. Smith has extremely close ties to Tom DeLay. He has been involved in fundraising efforts for TRMPAC, the DeLay front group that has been under investigation and is now facing indictment for funneling illegal corporate campaign contributions to Republican candidates in the Texas Legislature. Lamar Smith has contributed $10,000.00 to Tom DeLay's legal defense fund. Lamar Smith took away a seat on the House Ethics Committee from a Republican who had voted to admonish Tom DeLay. Smith at a recent Town Hall Meeting in Austin Texas when asked about his support of Tom DeLay said "Tom DeLay is a friend of mine". Recently under extreme pressure from the national media, when asked what he would do if Tom DeLay was brought before the Ethics Committee, Smith said he would recuse himself. Recusing himself is not good enough. Smith must step down and allow an unprejudiced member of the House take the position, so that there will be a full committee effectively examining all the issues related to Tom DeLay's questionable ethical activities and behavior. Smith must not allow the honesty and integrity of the 21st District to be tarnished by even the hint of impropriety. I wonder if he understands that and will do the right thing?
