If not whomever is advising him should get out of politics.
Crossing my fingers that tonight's Hardball appearance is for Hackett to officially announce.
Corker has over 3.0 million in the bank and Ford a little over 1.5.
Announcing your intention to run the day your uncle goes to jail for taking thousands of dollars on video for stealing computers from local schools isn't going to help. Not to mention that Memphis is NOT Tennessee.
That race was over before it started and proves just how weak our bench is in that state.
Ford isn't a bad candidate. Republican after Republican have proven that corruption charges don't necessarily stick, especially in a case where the candidate himself is accused of wrongdoing by nobody.
Cook Political, among others, calls this race a tossup. I agree. I don't see what purpose is served by conceding open seats.
The current Gov. ran a perfect race and beat a terrible opponent. Its an exception, not the rule in TN politics.
Ford also has one of the worst media firms in the country working for him.
He'll lose by ten and its not conceding. Its lack of blid optimism.
Resources would be better spent in OH, RI, AZ and them MT, MO.
AND, governors can always retire to the Senate. Much trickier to go the other way. Term limits just screw you over.
I think the GOP increasingly has a lock on this state. I wouldn't count Talent out at all. A lot of people might say now that they don't like Talent, but what will they say in November 2006, after their pastor and fellow church leaders have been beating the drum for the GOP for months?
Casey gave up on the Governorship? Last I saw he was defeated in 2002 during the primaries and would have no chance of getting the nom next year against Big Ed. So I don't think he so much as gave up on the Governorship as he stood no chance of getting it, and eyed another position.
Sorry, forgot this wasn't a Casey thread...
But it's no longer the case that we'd need an earthquake to regain control of the senate in 2006. We may get one, but just, say, a 4% move from 2002 and 2004 will net us Ohio, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. Add in Rhode Island and Montana, with weak Republican incumbents, and that's 50. Then, if Sen. Hagel leaves the Republican caucus to run for President as an independent (as was rumored this week), or if ill health causes Sen. Specter to retire, or if one or both of the Mainers would cross the aisle, control would flip.
2006 is shaping up to be the perfect storm for Democrats: gas prices, Iraq, second midterms under an unpopular president. These candidates need to realize that the climate will be great for Dems in 06. We don't know how it's going to be in 2008. With this political climate, McCaskill needs to run for the Senate. I hope it is true that she's running.
My brother in Arizona tells me that Kyl is not as vulnerable as people think.
