A number of things are coming together today. First, I am out in Bucks County, preparing for my first on-site live-blog event with my new laptop, which will start in about an hour. The event is
Ginny Schrader announcing her candidacy for Congress in PA-08. Among other things, this now doubly guarantees that there will be a contested primary in PA-08,
which might be a disappointment to some, but I believe will only be good for Democrats in Bucks County. Second, in light of
Jerome's post below, I am pleased to announce that every seat in the Philadelphia region already has at least one serious Democratic challenger, or is a Democratic held seat. Even better, in just two days, we are going to have every serious Democratic challenger to a Republican held seat in the area speak at a massive, five-county Democracy for America Meetup (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia). I'll be MCing the event, so I won't be able to live-blog it, but I am looking into streaming video. The
the speakers will include:
Lois Murphy (PA-06)
Paul Scoles (PA-07)
Ginny Schrader (PA-08)
Patrick Murphy (PA-08) (fixed)
Lois Herr (PA-16)
Perhaps the best part of the evening is that it will include free beer at the Yard's brewery. Sweet. You can sign up for the event here.
This is exciting stuff, and it is all part of a local effort where I am trying to help build a stronger, more coordinated Philadelphia netroots. Everyone will have important elections in their own backyard this year, and we all need to band together locally to help fight conservative blog sprawl. For me, 2006 starts today.
Update: Silly me. Just having a laptop doesn't mean you can live blog when there is no wireless in the area. Anyway, I'm back in my apartment now, and you can read the official press release on Ginny's announcement here.
