Minister ex-communicates members for not backing Bush

My favorite line is the end:The minister of a Haywood County [North Carolina] Baptist church is telling members of his congregation that if they're Democrats, they either need to find another place of worship or support President Bush.

Already, the Reverend Chan Chandler has ex-communicated nine members of East Waynesville Baptist Church. Another 40 members have left in protest.

During last Sunday's sermon, he acknowledged that church members were upset because he named people, and he says he'll do it again because he has to according to the word of God.

Chandler could not be reached for comment today, but says his actions weren't politically motivated.

Not politically motivated, eh? Well then, neither is this blog. And the world is flat, too. Georgia10 has the video.

There was a rabbi once..
There was a rabbi once, who saw people
playing politics and doing George Soros-style
currency trading. The offices were near
and even in front of temple, mostly because
Caiphus thought that this was a great
place to run campaigns and appease caesar.

Caiphus was this jew, who really thought
the best way to run the temple was
to work the political side of the equation.

This rabbi, lifted these people up over his
head and threw them out. Now, this was the same
thing as if you or I, lets say, logged onto
a blog and tried to just singlehandedly
lift up the thread and bounce all the special
interest sleazebags out of here.. or
the corporate interests, you know, the
media entertainment companies that pay
shills and trolls to be here..

What do you think he did?
Not motivated to do some damage to these
guys? Well, neither is this blog entry.

Bye-Bye Church Status
Sorry, but this isn't a church any more. And it damn sure shouldn't have tax-exempt status. It is an arm of the Republican Party, and it ought to be subject to all the appropriate laws.

And we should make a BIG, BIG stink about it, too.

Why isn't the pastor kicking the Republicans too? I mean we all know their record on poverty? This guy is not a pastor and a terrible representative of the gospel. I agree, remove their tax exempt status. That's bullshit.

How is this different from certain Catholic bishops saying that it was a mortal (i.e. soul damning) sin voting for a pro-choice candidate?

This is yet another proof that the country has gone completely mad.
