Years Of Living Desperately

Today, I ran across this quote at Oliver Willis. New York Sen. Hillary Clinton's chief accuser Peter Paul said Saturday that yesterday's acquittal of her former campaign finance chairman, David Rosen, doesn't mean she's in the clear.

"This is by no means an exoneration of Hillary's campaign," Paul told NewsMax. "In fact. it's an indictment of her campaign."

Being acquitted means you are guilty. That must be an easy one for Republicans. After all, it's just like how increasing violence in Iraq means that the insurgency is getting desperate. What you're seeing is a group of frustrated and desperate people who kill innocent life... -May 31, 2005 - President Bush

The desperation of the Islamofanatics is evident in such actions as an attempted attack by as many as 50 fighters against a Marine convoy near Qaim a few days ago.... This is a significant development, but as it unfolds, the desperate and futile bloodshed continues, with more and more Sunnis becoming victims as well as Shiites.--May 13, 2005 - TCS hack Ralph Kinney Bennett

These, and other recent tragic incidents, are the desperate acts of those seeking to destabilize the successful democratic political process reflected in the recently elected Transitional Government.--May 11, 2005 - British Foreign Office minister for the Middle East Kim Howells

But it shows that his (al-Zarqawi) organization is getting desperate.April 29, 2005--Retired Army Col. David Hunt

We see these attacks as another desperate attempt by the terrorists to discredit the newly formed Iraqi government.--April 29, 2005 - US-led forces statement

Hairy Fish Nuts (unfortunate name) has more than 150 quotes, with links, to administration officials and other hawks flogging the "desperate" line dating back to mid-March, 2003. Talk about desperately needing a thesaurus.

Well, since war is peace, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength under Our God-Emperor, why SHOULDN'T exoneration be guilt?

i just read the blumenthal book recently and that quote from newsmax reminds me of how dirty those people are.  I am not a huge hillary fan, but its absolutely repulsive the lenghts the right wing smear machine goes to trying to bring her down

hmmm
I have been reading Stanley Karnow's book on Vietnam in my spare time, and what really jumps out at me is that these same "desperation" lines were being used to explain away the Tet Offensive.

Fish Nuts
That's the best collection of "desperate" comments I've ever seen. In isolation, one can easily imagine some truth behind each instance. But when you see how often people describe the insurgents as desperate it really takes the wind out of the pro-war side. Hard to be desperate for two years.

Hairy Fish Nuts
I could be mistaken, but I think the name of the blog comes from a panel of Bloom County, where a Hare Krishna tries to peddle some shave-headed flower-holding to Opus the penguin. 'Hairy fish nuts' was Opus' mangled mispronunciation of Hare Krishna.
