We need transportation options as a security blanket. What happens if terrorists strike an airport again and the planes are grounded? We need a backup system.  Amtrak is part of that backup.

All these cuts when the deficit hits 400 billiob (not including the 250 billion social security surplus) is just an act to make the p"problem" Democratic spending instead of Republican tax cuts.

So, on the same day he votes to allow oil drilling in Alaska to make America less dependent on foreign oil and more "secure" he votes to torpedo a transportation system that facilitates less oil consumption in America. Makes perfect sense, if you are a complete wacknut.

Rick came to Erie PA a month ago to have a twon hall on Soc. Sec. He told the crowd that they would be able to pass on ALL of their money in their private accounts to their heirs.
 According to EVERYTHING I've read or heard about the plan: You would buy an annuity with your private account when you retire. This annuity would then pay you a certain amount every month until you die. When you die the annuities STOP. And you DO NOT get to pass it on to your heirs.
Santorum said this was not true.
 The reason this is important is because of the refrain "It's your money. You own it. You control it." That seems to be..ahem..bullshit.

Are religious classes permitted to be held at the Senate?  I really worry about someone who goes out of their way to appear so religious.

Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) has organized a course for members of Congress on Catholic doctrine that is being taught from his Senate hideaway in the Capitol.
The senator's move comes at a time when members of both major political parties are talking more freely about their faith.....

Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.), who is president of the prayer breakfast this year, said the event is open to any member of any faith, adding that "prayer is the tie that binds" members together during services.

Years ago, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), who is Jewish, brought in a biblical scholar to lead a study group about the Old Testament.

Rob Boston, a spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, when told about the course, said he normally would not be too alarmed about members' practicing religion in the Capitol. Nevertheless, he said, "This is headed up by Senator Santorum, who has repeatedly attacked the separation of church and state and seems to believe that it's perfectly permissible for him to base public policy on his ultra-conservative religious beliefs."

"Everyone invited is a Republican," he continued. "If this is about faith, and not politics, some Democrats would be invited to come along."

Does the Pennacchio camp care to weigh in on this issue? I think this is an opportunity to gain some headway in the Dem primary.

I haven't trusted Santorum as far as I could see him since he first appeared on my radar in '92. I thought something was fishy then, and there still is, but it isn't the Schukill, or Susquehanna Rivers. It is now & forever shall be him.

I'm unfortunate enough to have been Democratic in a Republican-based area more than I care to elaborate, so my mistrust has often been seen as simply partisanship. But. not so fast.....I'm not the partisan one here. Santorum is simply spouting off whatever "Big Daddy Dubya" wants him to say so that he stands a chance at running in '08. Then people wonder what has become of this country.
