Florida 2006 Senate & Gov

Quinnipiac takes a look at the Florida races in 2006. In the Senate contest, on the subject of approval/disapproval, Dem Bill Nelson looks pretty strong, with a 50/17 ratio (compare this to a 44/23 ratio for Mel Martinez), but his re-elect numbers are so-so, 37-37-26 (though aren't they all usually this time of the cycle) say re-elect/someone else/no answer. As for the GOP nomination, Harris (who launched a Press Release content, without comments "Blog" on her House site) says she's "six months away" from her announcement, I bet she's going to run:
                  Republican

Harris 37%
Gallagher 20
Crist 14
Jennings 11
Webster 3
DK/NA 15
In fact, Harris right now looks to have the Republican Senate nomination there for the taking, as Jennings and Gallagher are spoken of more as Republican Governor contenders than Senate contenders.

In the race for the nominations to run for Gov, Castor still leads Chiles and Davis for the Democratic nod, 36-29-10 among Democrats, and 30-25-8 overall, but it's not a runaway. Among Republicans, Crist barely leads Gallagher, and Jennings is further back, 35-32-16 among Republicans, and 30-27-14 overall.

Katherine Harris
There are few Publicans outside the Bush family I'd rather beat.  She'll be the lightning rod in this one, not Nelson.  We should win.  And beat her butt!

A Stratetgic Vision
Poll(R) had Castor leading a few of the Republicans for governor, and the frontrunner(albeit it with a plurality) for the nominee. The poll also had Nelson leading every Republican mentioned(again only with a plurality) for the Senate race. I heard he wants to bring the NASCAR Hall of Fame to FLA. If he does that, along with pushing against SS piratization then he should be in good position. He'll still have a fight, but nevertheless, he'll be in good shape.

NASCAR and Social Security? In Florida? If he does well, he won't just win, he'll crush all opposition! The only thing that Floridians love more than those is guns, and guns isn't enough to beat that combination!

castor
There's a very real possibility that Castor won't run. Her poll numbers are strong, and she's probably the strongest potential nominee the Dems have for the Gov seat, too. But, her heart may not be in for what will be a tough nomination fight - one more personal than usual because of Jim Davis potential to challenge her in her home base of Tampa. Tampa, by the way, has another layer of Castor family intrigue, with Betty's daughter, Kathy potentially running for Jim Davis's congressional seat against a leader of the Florida State Senate Democratic caucus.

Stir the Pot!
I think the tiger in the cage here is Jeb. He would make a very tough opponent in '06 for Nelson BUT conventional wisdom would be that he wants to run for President in '08. However I think that Jeb thinks that's a bad idea and is waiting to announce his intentions later.

Katherine Harris is being recitent because she wants to see if Jeb is hoping to go for the Senate or not. If he is, she'll instead run for Governor. if he isn't then she takes the shot at the brass ring of the Senate seat. Well except she'll probably run for both her regular Congressional seat and Senate so as to keep her options open.

Re: Stir the Pot!
Jeb for Prez? Nah. Florida voters don't like him much, either.

He did well after the hurricane, but to be back to his old divisive self.
