Santorum Coordinating with 501c6 group Americans for Job Security?

David at Swing State has pointed out that McCain is a hypocrite on campaign finance for stumping for Rick Santorum while Santorum relies on shadow groups to run ads on his behalf.  Santorum's position is that he knows nothing about these groups.  Well it looks a lot like his campaign and the groups are coordinating.

If the grandfather and grandson walking together in Sen. Rick Santorum's Internet ad look familiar, it could be because the same two actors are in a television ad that a third-party group is running in support of Santorum.

A spokeswoman for Santorum, R-Pa., has repeatedly denied any connection between Santorum and the group, Americans for Job Security.

The campaign for Bob Casey Jr. - the leading Democratic challenger in his 2006 Senate race - said Friday the coincidence is too much to be ignored.

"I think it raises a lot of questions," said Larry Smar, a spokesman for Casey, the Pennsylvania treasurer who is leading in polls against Santorum. "Someone isn't shooting straight."

Michael Dubke, president of the Republican-leaning third-party group, and John Brabender, Santorum's media consultant, each denied that the two sides had collaborated in any way. They each said it was a coincidence they used the same stock footage in their respective ads.

Both ads tout a plan by Santorum that he says would guarantee Social Security for those 55 and older.

"This is a piece of public stock footage which we've used in other ads before," said Brabender, whose group, Brabender Cox put together the ad for Santorum's Web site. "We have many senior shots in our ads, and certainly it's not in the least bit surprising that there could be shots that somebody else has access to as well."

Smar said the timing of the release of each ad is also suspicious.

The Internet ad started running on some sites on Nov. 25, Brabender said.

Americans for Job Security, which is based in Alexandria, Va., distributed its ad to television stations on Nov. 23 and it began running six days later, Dubke said.

You'll note that Americans for Job Security was recently investigated in Texas for using corporate money to influence Texas elections.  Charming bunch, this group.

Speaking of hypocrites, here comes the DLC.
Here you go moderates and blue dogs!  DLC attacks and eats own.  Sounds Republican to me.  If it talks like an R, votes like an R; it is an R even if it has a D after its name.

DLC Slanders Murtha/Pelosi As "Surrendering" on Iraq
http://www.davidsirota.com/

"The Democratic Leadership Council has really gone over the line. In today's Washington Post, their staffer Marshall Wittman - who used to be a Republican operative and top official at the Christian Coalition - said that Democrats who are pushing for an exit strategy from Iraq are "offering surrender." This is an organization that continues to say it wants to "help" Democrats - but as we can see, they aren't interested in anything like that.

The Post quoted me responding to Wittman. I said, "It is not surprising that a bunch of insulated elitists in the Washington establishment -- most of whom have never served in uniform -- would stab the Democratic Party in the back and attack the courage of people like Vietnam War hero Jack Murtha and Nancy Pelosi for their stand on Iraq."

Wellstone 2002
This is what I remember about AJS:

Little is known about Americans for Job Security, which is based in Alexandria, Va., just outside Washington, D.C. It was founded in 1997 with a $1 million contribution from the American Insurance Association, which Dubke says is no longer associated with Americans for Job Security.

They called Wellstone a "money grubber" because of his support for the estate tax.  They flew a plane towing a banner reading "Wellstone: Stop taxing the dead." over the MN State Fair.

Santorum doesn't have to stoop this low.....
because he already has his belly on the ground. As I had stated in previous posts, Santorum knows his job is in jeopardy and he will do anything to "turn" things his way. The fact that he is starting this early tells me he knows how far behind Casey he really is and I fully expect him to get as dirty as possible. It's sounds as though this group was made for him, and no one should be surprised that McCain is looking the other way.

what is the sanction for this coordination?
What are the consequences of this?  Doesn't the group (Americans for Job Security) lose their tax exempt status if they coordinate with a campaign?  Is there a part of the IRS that should be looking into this? Or are criminal statutes violated? Perhaps we can pressure the IRS or FEC or the the prosecutors or whoever to do something. We need to learn from the right-wing that yelling and screaming about things works.  If we don't put on pressure (e-mails, petitions, etc.), they probably won't do anything.
