35%--Bush Approval Plummets Further

This is the lowest approval rating for a President in thirteen years. From CBS:Bush's low job approval is far below that of some of his two-term predecessors at this point in their second terms. In November 1985, President Reagan had a 65 percent approval rating, and Bill Clinton's job approval in November 1997 was 57 percent. Bush's rating is higher than Richard Nixon's was at the same point in his administration.
Approve Disapprove
   35 57
This is fantastic, but Bush can be pushed even lower. I'd still like to see 60% disapproval for one.

Poll Numbers
These numbers are horrible.  I think people are just pissed off about the scandals, the lies, and the war.  What are the possible problems that could arise because of those low ratings?

Well done George!
I wish the pundits would stop talking about how he retains the support of such high numbers of Republicans. He has tied himself so closely to the right-wing project of the Republican party that people who don't support him stop identifying as Republicans -- either you support him or you leave. His continued high numbers among Republicans mean nothing, except that he is steadily destroying the Republican party. He'll be at 8% and people will still be saying: But he IS popular with Republicans.

Never satisfied, huh?

Geez, Chris.  Talk about demanding :)

Well, we'll see what we can do.

Remember when you were clamoring for below 40?
HaHA!  I remember when we were all getting excited about Bush being below 40, now "Above 60" is the new "Below 40".

Going down......

iraq
if you look at the numbers in the poll, Bush has generally stayed the same on most issues and actually improved on Iraq by about 5 points. Yet he's gone down to 35, an alltime low.

Plamegate is whats bringing him down right now. And it's not going away. And Iraq isn't going away either, although there may be ups and downs.

happens every time
...we "make progress" in iraq.  it's the iraqi constituion bump.  but in another month, when our guys and gals are still dying, people get their first winter heating bills, gas prices go back up, and we keep pouring money into the quagmire, and he'll be right back down o where he is now.  hell, he may sink even futher.

Democratic war vote and repeal bush appeal
Democrats who "voted for the war" can explain their vote as a presidential empowerment bill, then blame bush for extending himself. Not extending as in "... the Army you have ...", but extending beyond the truth. We allow driver's licenses at 16, but take them back when the youngster gets too ... wild? For that matter, we take licenses back when students fail. Do we let the wild and/or failing little boy cry out that we let him have a license?

When Republicans respond "everyone agreed about WMD!" Well, everyone had different ideas, and the idea that screwed up is Bush's. Some people thought the UN examiners were going along quite well - the tonnage destroyed was monumental. Some thought that containment was working; that any WMD program was crippled, that his inhumane policies (conducted during Bush1) were checked. Some thought  a secular Iraq hindered Islamic terrorism. But not bush!

When Republicans scream Clinton agreed, point out that Clinton's 1998 bombing was very effective, we never lost a soldier. It showed our power and capabilities, and their lack of same.. Saddam probably decided he couldn't compete with our abilities. Clinton safely saved us with the world's approval and gratitude.

You've got your wish!
The new Zogby poll gives Bush a 61% negative rating:

http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1036

Admittedly, he doesn't allow undecideds, and groups people ranking Bush as "fair" and "poor" together as "negative", which is not quite the same as disapproval. But this is the poll that less than two weeks ago put Bush's approval at 45%, several points higher than every other poll out at that time. Zogby's no Republican, and he did call the last election for Kerry, but his polls have often shown Bush's numbers a bit high.

60% reached, sir! for a second time in one day!
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/PollVault/story?id=1278080

"George W. Bush's approval ratings for handling his job, Iraq, terrorism and the economy are all at career-lows. Sixty percent of Americans disapprove of his work in office overall, a level of discontent unseen since recession chased his father from office."

39% approval, 60% disapproval...

I will believe this if

I'm a happy camper
It's excellent that he keeps plummeting.  I say throw him an anchor.  Only Nixon polled worse in modern history and it was in the days immediately preceding his resignation.  I hope the media is as hungry about the Plame/Libby (possibly Rove) story as they were about the Lewinsky. If not they really are doing a disservice to the country.  Let's keep the issue raised here though, so maybe the MSM will continue to do so.
